He's been on umpteen preview shows already be it in Dubai or Dundalk.

He notably has Facile in many early multiples but has thrown it under a bus following its last race, and now wants to lay it "all day long"- "no chance whatsoever"

Let's hope it ends better for him than it did with Shishkin

What's your best bet of the meeting?

Mighty Potter. I think he's completely different class to everything else in the Turners. Appreciate It is too old and Banbridge isn't good enough, he was only a handicapper over hurdles. Neither of them will beat Mighty Potter. He's a class act.

How much of a chance do you give State Man against Constitution Hill?

Very little. If Constitution Hill wasn't in the race, State Man would be max bet material for me but I would advise against backing him without the favourite as he could sacrifice second spot by going after Constitution Hill and trying to win the race.

Does Galopin Des Champs win? If not, who beats him?

No. I don't like Galopin Des Champs. I wasn't impressed by him in the Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown and a few guys I hold in high regard reckon he had a very hard race. This might sound silly but I think he's too classy and too pacy for a Gold Cup. It's a race that is often won by a slogger and the two I like most are Noble **** and Stattler. They are solid each-way alternatives to the favourite with my slight preference for the Grand National winner.

What do you make of the Ryanair in Allaho's absence?

I wouldn't back Shishkin but I wouldn't lay him either. If he runs to the level he did at Ascot he'll win. It's as simple as that. The problem is that 26 days is not a long time to recover. I won't be having a bet in the race.

Which novice hurdlers take your eye?

Impaire Et Passe is the hype horse and, if he's as good as people are saying I'd imagine he'll win the Ballymore. If we happen to get proper soft ground for the Albert Bartlett I think Three Card Brag would be unbeatable. He'd beat them from Cheltenham to Bristol in a bog.

And what about the novice chasers?

Mighty Potter and El Fabiolo are two novice chasers I like a lot and I'll be backing both. I'd be very much against Gaillard Du Mesnil. I'm not sure what will beat him in the National Hunt Chase but something will.

Who wins a wide-open Champion Chase?

Energumene. I'm nowhere near as confident as I was three months ago following his defeat in the Clarence House, but he might get first run on Edwardstone and that might be enough to hold him off. It looks a match to me.

Will Flooring Porter retain his crown? If not, who beats him?

Not a hope. He might have won for the last two years but I give Flooring Porter absolutely no chance in the world. None. Home By The Lee is a rock-solid each-way play.

Which short-priced favourite is most vulnerable?

Gaillard Du Mesnil, and also Luccia. I have a feeling both of those will be beaten and I'll be laying them accordingly.

What’s your best bet for the handicaps?

Corach Rambler in the Ultima. He would have won last year's race by a lot more had he got out of the traps better and I can't believe he's only 6lb higher this time. I give him a great chance in the Grand National as well.

And do you have one lurking in any race at a huge price?

Doctor Bravo at around 25-1 in the Supreme. I liked his run behind Fil Dor at Gowran Park. He's improving rapidly and has come an awfully long way in a very short space of time.

That's the column but on the special Upping the Ante linked above, they are going through all of the races.

btw I think the Post is currently running a half-price Ultimate subscription offer, and three months will take in Cheltenham, Aintree and Punchestown, along with the Guineas and Derby. Plus you'll be able to read Johnny Dineen.

Johnny Dineen on Upping the Ante always looks to me like he might have haemorrhoids, as he stands next to David Jennings with hands behind his back, bending at the waist and twisting and swaying as if trying surreptitiously to scratch his arse.

After initially being negative I have grown to quite like him. He is at least honest. That said not impressed in the attempt to get the big bet matched last night. Little bit of showing off? Could easily have done that off air, had he so wished.

He put the Starsport rep on the spot when he asked to have a bet on his El Fabiolo boost at 15/8.
It was preview on zoom
The Rep really shouldn't have asked how much he wanted on.
He wanted £16k on at 15/8 pay up tuesday.
The rep and pundits laughed with embarrassment.

Bentring -- "Can't see him doing another UTA with Jennings,I'd say there's times he'd like to thump him or tell him to shut up he's unbearable"

Upping the Ante has turned Johnny Dineen into a star. Dineen is on more Cheltenham panels than even Davy Russell and David Jennings, including one in Dubai last week. He is famous and in demand only because of Upping the Ante.

On an unrelated topic, I've only seen Gavin Lynch once.

Yeah, from Lynch probably wondering how they'd manage without him, Id have thought that most viewers would sooner have the "craic" that JD provides....I now I do.

I do like it when he says things like he couldn't care less about all the nonsense about welcoming them back into the winner's enclosure as he'd be watching the next at Huntingdon and such likeGrin
