The jockeys have accepted them - it is what it is - and they are riding the horses! The timing does not come into the equation esp if is for the welfare of the horses - the giver of the sport. Maybe the BHA ought to consider taking the whip away altogether -
In F1 new rules have been introduced on a regular basis usually at the beginning of a new season sometimes not. But, have any team principal whinged about them?
The trainer concerned is absolutely pathetic and unprofessional, I firmly believe.

700 rides between them if i were a trainer using cobbden or hughes i,d think a total whip ban would increase their chances of riding winners,both weak as pish with the whip and there,ll be a lot stronger jocks than them been worse off if it went

Trainers are very concerned at the moment because of Cheltenham. If one of your regular riders is banned and then the first choice (Cobden, de Boinville, Skelton) gets injured on day 1, you are scrambling to find a rider for a horse that you have spent 3 months preparing for the one big day. Willie and Gordon will be hoping that a few more top GB riders get banned as they don't have the same problem.

As for the original poster as far as most people who follow racing the enjoy and respect the opinions of a passionate and incredibly successful trainer .

So Willie and Gordon would rather see the best GB riders on the biggest dangers to their chances? Don't think so. I didn't say they wanted them to get injured which is entirely different. The Irish based jockeys won't be banned (or if they do it will be after Cheltenham is long forgotten)
I can just picture Willie having his corn flakes and the head lad rushes in Willie Willie great news for energumene Tom cannon is suspended for Cheltenham.

With the top Irish riders in town, there's no guarantee that the English based riders wouldn't get replaced with an equally strong (or stronger) jockey.
A far bigger concern for the Irish trainers will surely be that they pick up extensive bans, ruling them out of the remaining festivals, or the worst happens and they lose a race after the fact.

They'll only lose a race if their jockey has cheated egregiously. The threshold for disqualification is well beyond what the rules permit.
Of course it should be unlikely, but all trainers will be concerned about it. The Irish race under entirely different rules, so it's arguably even more pertinent to them.
