I know, no techy genius here but can hardly get a reception on my mobile. I spoke to the BT mobile department and the man told me not to quote him. Long story short it appears my phone is 2G and he recommended upgrading to a 4G. Not a pro0blem with the cheapest I can find in Argos at £60 but any techy experts able to say this will improve my reception? (I'm only 1 mile away from the mast I may add) As it stands I'm paying BT x amount per month for texting and they did send me a new sim card which made no difference.

Never had one hulk. I don't have a smart phone as I need no data. Funnily enough miss stew is 3G but I would be annoyed upgrading and the same reception.

I think that someone who believes that the lowest g possible is best, is unlikely to find a use for that info.

Joking aside, i'm surprised you get data service with 2g, it's basically redundant. Telia (Sweden) has a 5g service. Not only that but you can use a 4g sim card in an old phone anyway. |

My 30 quid phone is for calls and texting only. If I do have data it must be minimal. As for 4g sim card that would be for those that use there phone to connect to the internet??? And as far as I can gather the BT bloke who sent me a new sim never mentioned data he was all about upgrading to a 4g phone.??? |

I think you are getting confused and it doesn't matter whether you download data or not. I also don't understand why the BT guy advised buying a new phone for a 4g sim, although going by the fact you paid 30 GBP for your phone it's not a bad idea. As i mentioned earlier, i'm surprised you get any reception with a 2g sim (if i understand correctly). Next time you have a win, buy a half decent smart phone, it doesn't have to be all singing/all dancing. You can even get Betfair on it if you wanted. |

how would anyone know what G their sim is?
Go to SIM settings, it should state it (although your phone is old, so it may not) . I have 2 sim cards in my phone, both activated and for 3G and 4G. 3G or 4G will work in any phone, but 5G is different |

Went into that link Andrew. All good here. As I said previously miss stew has never had a problem and her smartphone is 3g. I'll report back when I get my new 4g phone.

Vodaphone shutting down 3G this year I believe so fook knows what the 2G providers will be doing anon.

Funny you should say that Leif. Wat back in the seventies I bought a top of the range Hitachi music centre from which I derived huge amounts of musical pleasure. Ten years ago I spotted its double in a museum exhibition pf historical electronic sound and vision equipment!
