When did 'woke' take over from use of 'pc' I wonder....seems like it's used all the time now spouted around as a generalist term. |

In some countries, the "first" name is the surname as we would know it so more confusion. We are a country with a Christian heritage and most of us over 50 were baptised in a church when our name was made "Christian" Sadly like so much of our culture it is being removed by those whose agenda I can't fathom.

First off people under 30 (40?) don't really use 'Christian' name - in fact when was the last time someone said it to you and not 'First' name - go on start a survey! 2nd when's the last time the vast maj of those working themselves into a lather went to church apart from a wedding, funeral, Christening - judging by the attendance figs a very long time ago? 3rd how many are Christened these days anyway - I'm not (50 v soon) so its meaningless to me and many many others. Language is always moving and this is no different No-one really cares either way and who cares what closeted US academics are doing ffs?
What next for the right wing to work themselves up into a lather, oh yeah 15 minute towns - please start off on that one as it's fecking hilarious? |

Actually a few years ago 'woke' was a badge of honour as you are awake to the injustice in the world -personally I don't care that your gen pretty much don't give a damn about others (not only the 'woke' nonsese but the mark you have left and are leaving on history). Many still feel the same whatever the right wing do. It is fecking great watching you lot get so worked up about nothing so often - please keep it up fellers!

I don't think I've ever asked someone what is your christian name......always your first name, as and when, so who gives a fk......on the other hand, it's just another example of those on a mission, who just keep chip chip chipping away at anything they deem to be "offensive" to someone.

I was Christened, I had no say in it…a bizarre reality given neither parent is religious but that’s how it was. It wasn’t the last time I even entered a church but it almost was, and although I have no investment in the term itself I recognise it as being part of the function of communication. The whole endeavour of dismantling meaning is fraught with stupidity. Language is just a framework. Yet for all those who simply surrender to those who focus on such matters then you also have to justify all the other words that are being discredited. I don’t recall them all but there’s a lot of them, some include: Chief-disrespectful of native minorities in America Field- has connotations of cotton picking black slaves The expression, ‘no can do’- an imitation of Chinese immigrant use of English while being used to dynamite mountainous terrain building the railroads. Can you believe these are the arguments they are making? |

nobody mentioned race-you brought it up the point is that academics seek offensive and find it where it doesnt exist, on behalf of others-hardly offensive to mention the word christian to anyone-offence exists only in their minds. they should be teaching not ideologising these same people brought in cultural appropriation safe spaces and content warnings that led to germaine greer and richard dawkins being no-platformed. and as predicted the term right-wing' was brought in by another twerp. academics come up with nonsense and pointing out thats its a waste of time and creates division where it doesnt exist is always dismissed as right wingers getting worked up about nothing. its only ever one-way. 'left wing' isnt used in a pejorative sense the same way. despite its overwhelming presence in academia. |
