I really like HC but I'm in a bit of a seethe about that effort.

Lost multiple lengths by going the scenic route with no proof the ground is faster there. Strange ride...

5/6 Wide and jumping left on occasion is not good, but he has turned into the straight not too far adridt, and then appeared to do next-to-nothing. If I was the Stewards I would be asking the question as to what he was doing. Whether they do is another question.

Following the race, Harry Cobden reported that HALF DOZEN (IRE), unplaced, ran too free.

It ran free because it had no cover... it had no cover because he raced so wide.

Lame excuse. It wasn't that bad, and doesn't explain why he gave up so early.

Didn't see the race but I have mentioned this about Cibden on here numerous times. If he's not leading he makes sure he's widest of all. He's like a clone of Patrick Mullins for this. On a general point the idea of going wide for better ground never sits well with me when you judge it against the ground that is being lost. It looks good when the horse has pounds in hand anyway of course.

Perhaps he is losing a bit of bottle.
