Once you have had your account closed can you re apply to open it if the powers that be, decide that the measures taken so far are too draconian?

Is this a general enquiry, h, l & c, or has someone actually closed one of your accounts following an affordability check?

365 closed  mine within 10 minutes of me asking why they restricted me
Report GEORGE.B February 5, 2023 9:34 PM GMT
So the restrictions were linked to affordability and they closed the account without asking for proof of income?

yeah, the bloke said i had a gambling problem,i should close down any other accounts and contact gamcare.

they gave me the option of a 6 month break...i said no.

it was quite humiliating and enraging at the same time.

I was speaking to a manager in a W Hill's shop last week, he said they will take your bets until you have had 1 winning slip, then the next time, come out with the affordability nonsense to delay payment of any winnings ... so that appears to contravene the Gambling Commission requirements and was one of the reasons why a bookmaker was fined heavily by them last week for flouting their rules.
I know of at least 2 cases where this has happened ... after a delay of 3 months, W Hill decided to relent and pay up in one case (£400 for a place double that won).
Surely, under the banking codes and data protection act, no one can demand to see your transactions without going through the courts for evidence of money-laundering etc., let alone affordability checks.
When someone quotes their "Terms & Conditions" to me, I always reply with my own "T&C" that clearly state my position and entitlements as a paying customer or investor, with a list of charges I would impose for any default.

I said this on another thread but it might be worth making a complaint to the Information Commissioner if they are making unreasonable requests for personal information.
