ITV Racing promotes gambling and makes a fortune from its advertising, surely they know all of these things?

Why do they want to couple gambling with ALCOHOL and talk about in-play betting when CASINO GAMES and SLOTS are at the route of problems?

The old regime at the Gambling Commission were toothless and incompetent being too chummy with the bookies; their recommendation for stake per spin on fobt was significantly higher - the previous was £100 - now £2. The present over zealous application of Affordability Check (AC) by bookies as advised by GC allegedly has and will impact greater on punters unless a sensible and workable approach is implemented.

But, do not forget why and how AC has come about ie bookies hell-bent on facilitating fobt junkies and gaming/betting addicts fraudulent use of unlawfully acquired or access to funds resulting in colossal amount lost over a short period of time; regular reported mega fines imposed on bookies were not deterrent.

Affordability Check is here to correct the increasing problem of gaming/betting addicts. But, AC has been hijacked by bookies to beat punters in addition to bet restriction and closure of their accounts.

I find it strange that a Government (and the lobby groups who push them) find it desirable to stop people losing money on casino games or sports betting while encouraging them to spend on alcohol (the half price deals and subsidy given to pubs and restaurants during lockdown) and of course the worst value gambling medium of all, the National Lottery which is promoted by the Government because they take nearly half of the money staked in tax. Surely any spending on credit card debt, cigarettes, alcohol, luxury goods, foreign holidays etc. above £50 per week should also be subject to affordability checks? None of us can be trusted to spend our money responsibly so Government and do gooders need to have a look at our weekly spend in order to keep us in line.

I don't drink, don't smoke nor do I take recreational drugs.
My joy is going racing and also going to Selhurst Park when I can and to have a punt. I'm not hurting anyone, I don't have any debts, it's just what I like doing so leave me in peace to enjoy myself.

That shouldn't really be too much to ask in the greater scheme of things.

We need to deregulate thieving - I'm to thick to understand why it is regulated in the first place.

No, you don't say Ed. We've been talking about it on here for years. They (ITV racing) haven't done a single piece on this issue. It's now getting a bit late in the day to start addressing it!

It doesnt matter what the intended use of stolen money is, the crime of theft supersedes the use.

So many BS stories about people who need to be pitied because they stole with a view to lose it gambling.

Preventing thieving is getting harder and the penalties are derisory. Why should the cost of a burglar alarm or security camera be as much as the fine for stealing if you are one of the 5% who get caught? Like solar panels, perhaps security systems should be a compulsory fitment in all new houses. Failing that, electrocution systems should be allowed when properties are locked and unoccupied. If you leave stuff lying about (as supermarkets do of course) then theft is made easy but breaking and entering should carry a minimum of 2 years in jail.

There was organic steak on offer in Tesco last friday for £40 PER STEAK. And a warning about theft on the shelf. The theft was the price. There is no chemical difference what so ever between organic and "normal" steak.

It can be an addiction that leads to ruined lives.
But so is alcohol & tobacco .

Where do you source that number from?  National Lottery Duty is 12% aiui.

53% prizes - 25% "good causes" - 12% duty - the rest spilt between the shop and the operator.

Is there actually going to be a final enactment of these proper legislations for gambling and 'affordability'?

What a joke term affordability in the current climate when most people can't afford to do most things, let alone gamble!

It's all been done casually, randomly and poorly so far without actual legal guidelines. So when are any actual legal guidelines going to be agreed on?

Sorry longbridge, I knew that only 53% went in prizes which is the real issue for anyone looking for value! Must admit I thought that the duty was more but the good causes are often things that Government used to fund from tax.
