That's Nurses, Ambulance drivers, Paramedics, Teachers, Railway workers, Civil servants, Border control etc, can't think who else. Where do they think the money comes from?
We've all been hit by the energy crisis, fuel, food price increases but it's the poorest who will suffer the most as this all adds to the inflationary pressures. Firefighters leader just said his members are using foodbanks! Not what they are for i'd say, lots of them have other jobs on the side as well, gardening, window cleaning etc. Firefighters have refused a 5% offer thats £28 a week for trainees up to over £40 a week for leading firemen, an awful lot of these workers get full pay when off ill which can be for months at a time. Perhaps a lot of people have been hit by higher mortgage payments but really shouldn't they have looked at the possibility of interest rises and what they could afford.
Only need the police and Army to strike and we'll all be kn@ckered!

I'll tell you a group who won't be going on strike...

A mate of mine called the Fire Brigade out when a machinery fire spread to some of the warehouse stock in his factory. They arrived straight away but refused to go inside the building and put it out as there was no one in there. Whole place burned down. Modern risk assessments to blame.

One of the best ones is driving examiners. Who got nearly 2 years off under the covid pretence.
There is little to no chance of a tory govt caving in to these strikes.
Unlike the 70s there seems to be little ideological momentum behind these actions. A day here, a day there. Its not going to make any difference.
A general strike, now that would be something else...
The bottom line is that the markets love Sunak.
He is not going to do anything to upset that, save wait it out. Inflation will correct itself eventually. Probably, well in time for the next election. Which he will win.
Which is bad news for lefties like me, but that seems to be the plan.
