Hi, what is the main difference betwee a Tricast & Trifecta?
I did a couple of combination tricasts today with PP, however, I could only do them in handicap races of 8 or more. So, handicap races of less than 8 it was not possible to put on - which presumably is tied in with the ew 3 places for 8+ runners.
How come you cannot do a tricast on a non-handicap with more than 8 runners?
Also, for those races with less than 8 races, when I look at the results it always has a Trifecta payout, how can one play that?
The tote offer the 'pool' tricast on all races with 5 or more runners I believe.
You can access the Tote through Betfair there's a tab next to the race time.

Tricast is a bet offered by bookmakers settled on a semi-secret algo involving the prices of the horses - including those that did not place.
Trifecta is a Tote (pari-mutuel) bet sttled by sharing the pool after deduction between the winning punters.
As swifty says, Trifecta is offered by the Tote on more races (esp those with small fields) than are available for Tricast betting with the 'books.

Thanks longbridge - clear explanation. Yep, just noticed even picking the first at Lingfield tomorrow, a 7 runner handicap. PP don't offer a tricast option, even though once the result is in, there will be a tricast payout amount in the results section.

The 12.45 tomorrow? Not only are PP offering Tricast, they're making me wrong by offering a price on each permutation rather than declaring the Tricast payout after!

@longbridge - sorry, when I select 3 horses myself in the Win or Each Way tab and go to Betslip, it doesn't give an option there for tricast, only for forecast. Whereas a later handicap with 8 or more, if I take the same approach it will give me the option for a tricast there. There is other tabs on the race for tricasts but with odds already available. However, they don't give an option to include the outside in their set combos.
Where do they typically declare their tricast payout after? Or do they match as per the Racing Post results for example.

"However, they don't give an option to include the outside in their set combo"
Not sure what you mean by that, sorry.
And apologies, I can't help with the rest - I just had my PP account open as this is the time of year I wake up my various bookie accounts ready for Cheltenham - I don't know their site well.

The 12.45 Lingfield with only 7 runners declared is officially a non-tricast race with no official tri-cast dividend being declared after the race has finished...(Which all bookies would use as a dividend)
However PP have made some combinations into tri-casts giving you their own prices which you can take beforehand.. From my experience these tend to be fairly unfavourable prices and not worth bothering with... Some bookmakers do offer this but not all..
Just had a look at Further Measure, Starshiba, Super Den tri-cast on pp @ 40/1.. Prices are 10/1,6/4,4/1 and that would probably pay at least 60/1 on an official tri-cast dividend...
