Tricky? The horse was an 80+ horse only 18 months back. Pointed in the right direction he could've won that race running backwards.

I rather suspect that if you reported this to the BHA, they'd simply point out what I mentioned earlier ; that's to say, the horse has a bad strike-rate, which reflects the fact it's a difficult ride, and that today wasn't the first time the horse has met trouble in running, etc, etc.

In other words, it's all there in its form - all perfectly transparent.

But, I could be wrong.

bluebook...

if you 'reported' it to the BHA...

they would just ignore it.

Have just watched the Kracken Power race at Newcastle and, having been a follower of the sport for over 50 years, Mulrennan's ride was undoubtedly a jaw-dropper! Back in the day, race readers, in their comments, may have written "never placed to challenge"...the euphemism used for a complete non-jigger! However, after a well publicised High Court case some twenty years ago, when a certain former champion jockey was accused of a riding a non-trier, race readers were 'encouraged' not to use the aforementioned phrase...lest they upset the racing 'gravey train'...sorry,racing establishment!I suspect any race reader...or for that matter racing journalist...who failed to heed the 'encouragement', would have quickly found themselves unceremoniously kicked off the said 'gravey train'! It would never do to bite the hand that feeds you!! Punters beware!!

Some horses become cash cows. They don't know if they're coming or going. Then when the day arrives can they be relied upon?
Maybe no, hence connections press pink.
By:
HappyHibby
When: 04 Jan 23 18:13
the BHA doesn't want trouble makers like us stirring up a hornets nest regarding non triers...

they want us to live in a land where every jockey/trainer/owner is a lovely wonderful human being who all love their horses and run them on their merits 100% of the time...

and at the same time they want us to fund the sport in many different ways...

and the media is exactly the same...

wait and see how many pundits/presenters/journalists come out and say Mulrennan was at it today ?

you won't get any.

I always avoid making posts on these kind of threads but this instance is
exceptional in that there is absolute unanimity of opinion.

For a supposed professional, that looked extremely inept in not being
able to disguise the chicanery with any guile whatsoever - the apologists
are gonna have a difficult task explaining that away...without smirking.

Problem is (IMO) there's no kind of 'totting up' system - we all know our favourite jocks for this kind of thing, and they can be repeat offenders.

When something keeps happening, then it's a 'pattern' not a one-off. But the system doesn't record it like that, when if it wants to make racing more clean, then it really should.

stu...

the BHA doesn't want to make racing 'more clean'...

it wants mugs like us to think every jockey/trainer/owner is a lovely wonderful human being who loves their horses...

When: 04 Jan 23 18:34
The majority of jockeys, trainers, owners do love their horses and do it for the love of the sport, not the money.
Unfortunately the criminal element is there and have the platform to make money.

With regards the media and calling him bent, they would need a big wallet and a good lawyer, however true it may be
By:
now wheres that switch!!!
When: 04 Jan 23 18:41
The Dealer.. why would they need a good lawyer and big wallets? Do you think he would actually try and contest it?
By:

When: 04 Jan 23 18:42
'what a shocker from Mulrennan' would be a start the dealer...

no idea who the presenters/pundits were at newcastle but i bet they said something like 'Paul's horse didn't get the best of runs there'...

either that or they did what the BHA Stewards at newcastle did and just looked the other way.

You could name a few past riders who felt the rath….some came back…some are history…
By:
the dealer
When: 04 Jan 23 18:44
What if someone from the racing media came out and said PM deliberately stopped that horse today, you think he wouldn't do anything??

Of course HH they could do a lot more than they do
By:
HappyHibby
When: 04 Jan 23 18:45
glad we agree on that the dealer.
By:
now wheres that switch!!!
When: 04 Jan 23 18:45
I dont think he would be able to do anything as all they would need to offer in evidence is the video of that ride today. Case closed...
By:
the dealer
When: 04 Jan 23 18:47
In a court of law, in a libel case, I doubt that video alone would be anywhere near enough.
By:
now wheres that switch!!!
When: 04 Jan 23 18:47
They could always put another charge on the sheet of Impersonating a professional jockey as a fall back, either way he is taking the punters for a ride.

You would have hoped that some sort of case was being built and certain accounts checked on a number of possible incidents in the past few years involving him, maybe there is but I won't hold my breath

No switch it'd never be that straightforward , the differential between what's interpreted as deliberate vs incompetence is far too subjective.

Obtaining proof would be impossible unless it's found via bets related to certain a/c holders.

Tell me how you can visually prove the difference between deliberate & incompetence ?

Of course it looked bad any idiot can see that but proving it to be deliberate would be difficult without concrete evidence as opposed to a subjective visual.
By:

When: 04 Jan 23 18:58
any steward at Newcastle today who went down the 'nowt to see here guys' avenue regarding this needs to be given their P45 with immediate effect imv...

clearly clueless and out of their depth.
By:
now wheres that switch!!!

Then the charge of impersonating a professional jockey stands and his licence is taken away that way..?
By:
the dealer
When: 04 Jan 23 19:00
Totally agree you can be 99% sure but you still need to prove it. His explanation and the trainers explanation is plausible.

I agree HH unless there are things going on behind the scenes.
By:
the dealer
When: 04 Jan 23 19:01
If there isn't HH then asking them to attend and enquiry would have been a start
By:
Hayden
When: 04 Jan 23 19:02
Now you're clutching at straws , every jockey past or present could be accused of that at some stage of their careers.
By:
now wheres that switch!!!
When: 04 Jan 23 19:03
So the Dealer.. for clarity are you saying that ride today was straight and just unlucky?
By:
now wheres that switch!!!
When: 04 Jan 23 19:05
Disagree Hayden, ive been on here many years and not seen such a reaction to a ride. I think amongst the dross on several threads, there are some very good judges and racing professionals that use the forum, everyone thought the same of that ride.
By:
the dealer
When: 04 Jan 23 19:06
Are you seeing things ??

Where did I say that,

I said early it was dreadful but you can't turn up in a court with a video of today  and say look he is a cheat.
His explanation is plausible, the trainer has backed him up, they need to prove it otherwise.
By:
Hayden
When: 04 Jan 23 19:10
You're not digesting the posts from Dealer & myself as neither of us are protecting the ride but....

How do you categorically prove the difference between deliberate & incompetence without factual evidence to support the claim.

You'd need either a confession or documented evidence as opposed to a punter stating " That ride was cheating "
By:
HappyHibby
When: 04 Jan 23 19:11
the dealer...

at the VERY least the Newcastle panel of stewards should have passed it on to the BHA (wherever they are based these days)...

let them 'deal' with it...

to just accept what Mulrennan and Goldie said is just unforgiveable imv...

if the BHA really wanted to clean the sport up (and it doesn't imv) then this is a perfect chance to make a start...

take another look yourselves or hand a P45 to the folk who made the judgement in the Stewards room at Newcastle...

neither will happen tho of course...

for reasons i have stated earlier.

Hayden, plenty of people in this country get found guilty on circumstancial evidence only.
