Racing is dying on its arse, attendances continue to fall , prize money was higher 20 years ago than it is today, our best horses are sold to Hong Kong and Australia. You have to broaden the appeal of horse racing to the younger generation and whacking animals with a stick does not portray horse racing in a good modern-day image. I feel that's the issue they're trying to deal with more than appeasing the anti-brigade.

99% of non racing think the whip is cruel….most of them are probably animal lovers….the whip is seen as draconian..racing is on the backside….

An enquiry was held into the running and riding ROCCO ROYALE (IRE), ridden by Jonjo O’Neill Jr and trained by Jonjo O’Neill, which, having raced in the rear of midfield until turning for home, stayed on strongly under tender handling until after the last hurdle to finish third, beaten 7 ¾ lengths. The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding shortly after the race revealed no abnormalities. The rider stated his instructions were to sit mid-division, get the gelding jumping and to finish as strongly as possible. O’Neill explained that he was slightly short of room both jumping and just after the second flight which left him further back in the field than ideal and amidst green horses which were running around and in turn unbalancing his own horse. He added that rounding the final bend he was pleased with the way ROCCO ROYALE (IRE) was travelling but met with further traffic in the home straight and although the gelding jumped well, he had to bide his time and it wasn’t until after the last that he had found clear space. O’Neill was pleased with the gelding’s finishing effort, maintaining that he had achieved his best possible placing. He added that he would be recommending that ROCCO ROYALE (IRE) should stick to 2 miles, but that he might benefit from a more galloping track where he could get into a better rhythm. G/L with Visibility trying to win off 74 - he's run in 26 handicaps where he's been handicapped at 70 or higher, and lost all of them. I should add I only know this from having researched his form in the past when he was entered against horses I owned.

Still, as the cliche goes, there's a first time for everything.

Of course horses always run to their mark,a mark allocated by an individual using his own opinion which is rarely any more accurate than that of a seasoned punter? Marks apart,absolutely no reason this horse cannot win given usual caveats in running with little to find in improvement on previous form.It either runs to form and goes up again or drops out and goes down,given the trainer,either is possible.

Unfortunately I selected it before the Quixall penalty,even so it is good enough if trying!!! HTH
