I imagine he will do well enough. Great facilities, plenty of horses and a good team. Guaranteed 100 winners in his first season.

I think the vast majority of the horses are owned by the Maktoums, and I think Mark has been quoted as saying their business model is heavily dependent on them.

But here's a thing, the silver colours, which I think belong to one of the sons?

The overwhelming majority have been trained by MJ, and of the tiny few sent to Gosden, one of them turned out to be Palace Pier!

MJK the flip side which is likely bigger is Charlie will almost certainly pull in more new owners.

Punters might not like him but owners do. I think they will be happy to support Charlie and there are not too many more professional trainers of his size outside of Newmarket. He's never been afraid to say what he thinks, most poo in their pants when a camera is pointed in their face.

'A friend to the punter'. Yeah, that should be every trainers top priority.

If you could forgive a bad run or two you could get a price..goodwood festival in particular. Yeah he ran 'em a lot and loads of winners. He once said ITV should show racing with no betting that's what he thinks of puntersLaugh

About time the whole industry was changed to make sure trainers train horses for the benefit of punters and fukc the owners?

Can understand Bisto Boy thinking that way given he is sad and lonely, mysoginistic and dreams of Sam Fox in her prime but preference for Boy George, the rest of you shock me!!!SillyShocked

The silver colours are Sheikh Hamdan (Sheikh Mo's son and Crown Prince) and it is true that the vast majority of his horses are trained by the Johnstons but whilst it is a big number, it does not follow that the "vast majority" of Johnston horses are Maktoum-owned. Shadwell dropped them in their "rationalisation!" following the death of Sheikh Hamdan senior. They may have a few horses from minor Maktoums but these are a handful and the Crown Prince only sent a handful of horses to the Gosdens - one good one mind.

Tbf, it probably is fewer than the in days before Godolphin employed a second main trainer and when any good ones were expected to be transferred to Godolphin eg Shamardal
By:
GEORGE.B
When: 30 Dec 22 18:27
Actually, that period might have been after Shamardal

But the point I was making, I recall an interview where MJ said that if the Maktoums suddenly pulled the plug, he wondered if his business would survive, but that might have been a while ago now, and looking down their current list of owners, there seems to be plenty of variety there.

Could well be the case with syndicates and the inevitable stable gambles that follow.

Another who needs daddy to get up the ladder--  Yeah, parents should never provide such great opportunities for their kids and kids should never work hard to make the most of them.

very glad he is going, will he still run the transport business that makes over a million a year multi running them far and wide, very profitable,  never bet his in donkeys years saved a absolute fortune, son likes a bet so hopefully things change but cant see it, who knows
By:

When: 31 Dec 22 13:11
His training fees are a lot less than the big Newmarket trainers so I suppose its swings and roundabouts with the transport. All those donkeys eh??

I would not go that far but

The Johnston stable is heading for worst tally of winners for 20+ years and lowest strike rate for even longer (inc Covid year)
