very green and free most of race..1.5L behind leader rounding bend and faded last 2f..

terrible ride smacks of nothing but the pocket talking...what exactly iyo was terrible?

Of course it was green and a little difficult to handle , he tried to go up the inside of the leader several times and eventually tried to pull it round the outside nearing the 2 furlong marker but couldn't. so overall a poor ride for a top class jockey imo...

William is a good rider but a bit overrated as far as WC…..there’s not many world class riders….

put any jock on that today and still wouldnt have won.

Jay, very few from the great man, though I have seen plenty of shockers in recent times , just reviewing the 1972 G.N. One of the girls from my year in the I.N.S. had the 4th Mr Twomey  in I think the 1973 G.N, what a party we had that night in Mullingar...

Buick has to be the most over rated flat jockey of all time.

Agreed - overrated - I'm sure when you're punting, there are jockeys AND trainers, who for sometimes fairly inexplicable reasons rarely work out for you - Buick is one of those for me - I bet him and he's nowhere, I lay him and he scoots in. Clearly capable, but that's no great advantage to my pocket.

Average racing can catch a few who are pumped up by the media….it’s ok on the turf in big races on point and shoot….

Judging by your post you need to decipher whether Buick is overrated or you're just a bad judge.

They all look good when connected to a big yard

Classic example K Fallon was imo a bully type up North and quite average…wins a group 3 (could be wrong) for Ramsden pumped up by the media…wins most up North and is snapped up down South to a big yard which was full of point and shoot

Obviously got the break like the rest looking back in history……

Anything else  ?

Put the top bunch of Northern riders with Appleby and you get the same outcome…..imv

Am completely at a loss to understand the criticism of William Buick. How can anybody genuinely think this man is not a top-class horseman?

Opinion seems to surface when he gets beat on a fav Greenacres , as it does with most jockeys 

Fallon was a point & shoot jockey aswell.

Just to explain the obvious, but a top class horseman shouldn't be giving up so easily, as often as he does, when a horse omes off the bridle. Punters have every right to be annoyed when it happens, and that goes for any jockey. It strikes me that there are people on here who seem to have a crystal ball and only back him when he wins.

That's why I hate Buick - haven't had a bet on him since this thread till sucked into 2 place bet on that race at Kempton - Let Saffie Osborne back up for 2nd - no questions asked - will never bet him again - another poster made that point earlier - we're not all seeing things

It's all far too subjective.

The two 11f novice races were around 9 secs outside standard, so not difficult to see what the problem might have been there...Turned into a sprint up the straight and he wasn't on the quickest horse?

90% who have had a bet in a race, IMHO see what they want to see and believe what they want to believe, often making the judgement seconds after the race is finished.

FYI

Not had a bet on any of them, his mounts are overbet. Especially for outside stables!

So you don't see what you want to see, and you don't knock everyone else who doesn't agree with you? It comes across as if you have constructed your own little pedestal.

Losing on three successive odds on favourites is not a good day in anyone's book. Nothing to do with 90% seeing what they want to see.

Not a good day agreed dd but sometimes you have to look deeper into the odds on category.

Both the opening races he was beaten by a debutant and tbh both his horses looked outclassed as time may well confirm in the future.

The third odds on was a handicap with his mount going up in trip so again an imponderable but well beaten and given every chance if good enough.

My own unproven view is that put Buick on the three winners in the opening three races and he'd have ended up with a four timer.

Again though it's all far too subjective and you really do just end up going around in circles with these jockeys debates , and 95% end up with exactly the same opinion.

People with financial interests are more critical or look for excuses on why they lost

Still find it amazing he is champion jockey but when the majority of the horses you ride are short priced favs its probably inevitable.....still think he is average at best.

He seemed to keep going up the inside when the winners were coming from out wider.....why keep doing the same thing if its not successful??  Caught my eye also today....was going to put up a thread on it but then seen this
