I have always believed in personal responsibility, dusty. We all have to learn from any mistakes we might have made earlier in life but to suddenly have someone telling me how to handle money in my mid 70s is ridiculous beyond words.
|
|
By:
Just too state. The person who called me said " We are concerned you have had too many bets this month" How are you using your time outside of racing?" Its my time I should be able to do as I please.
|
|
By:
Wow Trident, that last quote truly beggars belief.
How dare they ask such a question, absolutely stupefying. |
|
By:
Admittedly, I do use a lot of my time involved in racing and being at the track. I love horse racing and always have. But it's my time. It's only going to get worse, people are leaving the game we love. Some of the questions they ask when you get a review, is quite frankly none of their business.

This issue gets more ridiculous - I hope they sort it soon with proper legislation that actually allows for some freedom of choice once again.
I hadn't realised we were now living in George Orwell's 1984 quite this much! How you spend your time - they are really allowed to ask that!? The irony for me is that when I was a youngster I blew my wad gambling, and no-one gave a flying sh1t (apart from my creditors of course). Now I'm acatually reasonable decent and controlled as a gambler, they are more likely to stop me doing it! |

@dustybin
"keeps the money safe so you dont blow the bank when laying something too large when the odds change" How does that happen? Lack of discipline? |
|
By:
Theres so little money in the markets that with 1 click betting you can get caught out with changing odds at anytime.

how much can you deposit sparrow...nothing or 10k a month?
|
|
By:
1340 this month with another 500 requested...I'm assuming that's quite a few deposits (& subsequent withdrawals of the same pool of money) in that time?
I strongly advise people give this article a read . https://www.playtech.com/application/files/2416/4397/6450/Playtech_Protect_Research_Brief_Vol_2_1_-_Feature_importance.pdf high proportion of calendar days with a deposit, multiple deposits per day & high frequency of recent play...combined these are the 3 main factors that will trigger a review on your betting |
|
By:
db's advice of leaving a buffer is wise imo
if worried about hacking then there's 2 step if worried about self discipline then set your own daily loss limit say you class 100 quid as a bad day, set your loss limit to 150 a day, keep a working balance of 1k, clear head the next day/week etc don't chase & don't deposit immediately following a bad run use up some your buffer if sticking to this its hard for anyone to argue you are a problem gambler |
|
By:
high frequency of recent play "That is true I can confirm." But if you have quite a few bets per day (which has always been my style of betting) If I stay within my deposit limits and I have a loss limit in place too.
As wonder has said, if you have a Betfair account, turn on two-step authentication NOW. Because if your account does get hacked, you may not receive your funds back! |

I genuinely fail to understand anyone playing on here with more than pocket money who does not have 2FA enabled.
If you think it is too intrusive and you do not have very serious money on here, at least set it up and configure it to only trigger on logins from unknown IP addresses? |

The irony of that paper, wondersobright, is in the section headed Limitations to the analysis:
"the research focuses on one type of proxy for harm (serious self-exclusion), being the only proxy available at scale" In other words, their dragnet is picking up precisely the people who are able to deal with the problem themselves: the ones who deposit only small amounts but frequently, because they don't want to get in too deep, and who are realistic enough to recognize when it's going nowhere and it's time to self-exclude. The real desperadoes - the ones with delusions of making it pay big, the ones who max out their overdraft or transfer fee and deposit the lot in one go, because they've got a winning system - they slip right through the net. (Thankfully; otherwise there would be no one left to win off.) |

wonders, as I posted earlier the monthly figure of my bets so far is way out and if you look at the post you will see the 3 monthly P&L figure. As for my limit I have no idea as they have not contacted me other than that £10000 monthly figure shown.

As for this month deposits are just £100 and not £1340 .
|
|
By:
if you've only deposited £100 in november & BF is saying you have deposited £1340 then it must be a BF system error
presumably that's why you can't deposit also keep us updated with how it progresses |
|
By:
I am waiting for betfair to contact me from yesterday as promised and I will update on this thread once I hear from them. They did allow a £30 deposit last night when I decided to test them so they at least need to tell me of any deposit limit.

but to suddenly have someone telling me how to handle money in my mid 70s is ridiculous beyond words.
That's the socialist nanny state sparrow. To look after us from cradle to grave. They forgot to say they’d look after what we spend our money on as well. |
|
By:
When did this socialist government get elected, crippen?
|
|
By:
When do you think?
|
|
By:
Another lie from the tory party, that 'nanny' state would only exist with a socialist government - these things have been brought in by a Conservative government.
|
|
By:
All politics is cyclic, and all ends in failure.
One ideology gets voted in on optimism and leaves ruined, only for the opposite to be voted in as a result. The difference today is populism. The tories are running on fumes since they totally lost their own focus and attempted to undermine the opposition by parking their own tanks on their lawn. There is nothing Conservative about this government, most of their policies are labour policies rehashed. They should have left office years ago and found their core values instead. We now have this Frankenstein politics with zero integrity, look at the joke of brexit. It has nothing to do with ideology, just power wielding. The Lib Dems want to give 300 quid a month to homeowners who can’t afford the mortgage-pmsl Just as gambling is stopping the prospect of loss, they want to undermine the reality of win and lose. You take the gamble and lose you pay the consequences. Now we are told you are born non gendered. It’s embarrassing. |

Contacted them again this morning on that appalling chat service thing and was eventually told that I was in a queue to be emailed. I had been given a reference number on Saturday so the whole situation is a joke.

Hi all...I have been on BF for 20 yrs although my post is not the same as Sparrow's you will see a similar theme....I have been trying to withdraw £1375 since 27th Oct. with no success, I emailed BF and got reply a from guy called "Mauro" saying he would deal with it.
The next email he said I should contact Bank, which I did through the Manager who called H/O while I was there who informed him that HBOS would NEVER stop funds being paid into a customer's account and she put that in writing I passed this message onto "Mauro" on 31st Oct.I and received this reply same day. Mauro (Betfair) Oct 31st 2022, 12:27 GMT+1 Dear Edward, Complaint Reference Number: 00607771 Thanks for getting back in touch. I have passed this onto our Payments team and I will be back in touch with you as soon as I have any further updates on the case. Kind regards, Mauro Today is now a week and I have no further replies from them, any suggestions would be welcome |

Thanks Trident, I have heard of them closing accounts, it seems they don't like winners.

sparrow did this get resolved?
|
|
By:
Sorry wonders as I should I have updated this. Appparently the problem was with my bank who had put a block on my account but for no particular reason and blamed it on their security system being too sensitive to something. When I told them that this had been reported before and nothing was wrong the person said the call should have put through to the fraud department in the first place rather than just to an ordinary department. I only contacted them again because it was refusing other payments also.

ok thanks, glad its sorted
