George 1125 post
Unfortunately George those two days of top quality racing may be spoilt a little due to the ground/weather especially sunday ![]() |

cancelled as a mark of respect ? letting it go ahead would have been hugely "respectful". would've been the best last night ever, for exactly the reason they've cancelled it.

Why pick on sport? Are all entertainment venues - pubs, clubs, restaurants - going to close? I very much doubt it. This is a key point - I'm pretty sure struggling businesses in other areas of entertainment won't be shutting up shop, and coining their money in this weekend. So, it's ok to go out and drink 15 pints on our mourning 'days' - but not to enjoy some sport. World is bonkers. |

Cancel all sport today is fair enough.I think all sport should be able
to go ahead after today,no doubt shops and the like will be open this weekend.Tributes to the Queen can be made before all events start. |

There will be no sporting events this weekend according to government advice. Decision will be given out shortly if this advice will be accepted by the Sporting bodies

I bet the scummy casinos won't be closing their doors either - quite happy to keep scamming the needy out of their cash during this 'mourning period of time'...

We are told the Queen absolutely loved her racing, so what do we do ? we cancel the next 4 days of racing, crazy

The government has released guidance saying there is no need for businesses to close or sporting events to be cancelled during the national mourning period, reports my colleague Rowena Mason.
The guidance says some business owners and event organisers may wish to consider closing or postponing events, especially on the day of the state funeral, depending on the nature and tone, but there is no obligation to do so. On sporting, cultural and other entertainment events, the guidance is that any cancellations are at the discretion of organisers. It adds: “As a mark of respect, organisations might wish to consider cancelling or postponing events or closing venues on the day of the State Funeral. They are under no obligation to do so and this is entirely at the discretion of individual organisations.” If events do go ahead on the day of the funeral, the government suggests that organisations may want to adjust the event timings so they do not clash with the timings of the funeral service and associated processions. It adds: “As a mark of respect, and in keeping with the tone of national mourning, organisers may wish to hold a period of silence and/or play the National Anthem at the start of events or sporting fixtures, and players may wish to wear black armbands.” |

mitolo, Belive it or not, there was a time on this forum where people would post replies to one another without resorting to name calling and insults. But, from your joining date, you seem to be new to the forum and would not know that.
I also suspect you are young and, going by the sheer stupidity of your reply which shows you did not read my post properly, may have been worse for wear last night when you replied. Whatever, I've reported your insulting post to B/F and I do hope you are banned. You could easily have replied putting over your point of view (but did you actually have one to stat with) without being so insulting. And, BTW, if 'luck of birth' and 'accident of birth' are not pretty similar I will be very surprised. So, grow up before you make such insulting replies on here again. Or, do us all a big favour, and don't come on here at all - that's if B/F don't stop you first. |

I see that cricket, golf and rugby all going ahead tomorrow. Don't see why football and racing are going out on a limb.

I only saw one insult from mitolo addressing you as a Knob, apart from that I think he made some valid points, especially those concerning what the Queen " Would have wanted ". Nobody knows of course unless you had spoken to her personally.

Well - There's a turn-up, if ever I saw one.
Premier League and all other Football Cancelled - and in a season that is already condensed due to the World Cup ... Whilst the Cricket TEST MATCH continues - or rather starts - on SATURDAY - along with other County Cricket continuing, too. I would have done my conkers betting on that one ... with the other way around more likely, I would have thought. |

Ridiculous in this day and age the cancellation of so many sporting events. Our golf course has cancelled the Saturday comp as well.
Even kids football matches at the weekend cancelled. What a dull and miserable weekend ahead for sports/football fans and for many kids who look forward to the weekend and their game. I can understand on the day of the funeral and would respect that. For those who say the queen wouldn't have wanted this. She was 96, could have easily expressed her wishes for the nation to carry on with life etc. Obviously, she chose not to, wanting all this "mourning". And she knew when she passed all this nonsense would be going on. I remember me and a friend went to Ascot to watch Frankel's last race. Good views in parade ring etc and the race itself. After the race we headed off to the winner's enclosure. Though the path next to it was cordoned off as the Queen had turned up to watch the race and her car was there. The security guards wouldn't let us cross the 10ft path to get across as she could leave at any moment. There was about 20 of us. We pointed out that she was in the Royal Box as you could see her and couldn't get down that quick. The Queen could quite easily see the group of people unable to cross. But she didn't wave the guards to let us pass. It is quite a way from where we were to go back, under the subway along the betting ring through the concourse to get to the parade ring. As we were only 20ft away originally and Frankel would have left by then. No consideration for Joe Public then, and none now. I am more now in the view it's time for them to go then ever. I was still saddened to hear about her passing, but she could have easily stopped all this nonsense in its tracks. |

She should have waved her arms and shouted open fire.

Good Mourning everyone!
Today we have been prevented from going/watching racing and other sport. But there is a silver lining. Tomorrow we feast on Group races from the Curragh, Donky and Longchamp. I for one will not be spending today reflecting on the past or watching endless sycophantic drivel on tv but studying the smorgasbord laid out for Sunday. Enjoy the Craic, good luck and Bon Chance. |
