Tonight Rae Guest has a runner in the last for The East team, its off 8st 2lbs and there are only 2 jockeys who can do the weight or within the 3lb rules who are registered for the team, Hayley Turner is riding elsewhere so that leaves him Luke Morris.
Another The East trainer Ed Dunlop has a runner and has got Luke Morris booked on that horse even though other jockeys could no doubt take the ride as its carrying plenty of weight.
This now means Guests horse cant run so The East will only now have 1 runner in the race.

The whole pretext of this utter garbage is that its a team sport, yet whoever manages that team hasnt done right by the team, and neither it seems have the jockeys and trainers.

Also Luke Morris has never ridden Ed Dunlops horse before

I've never heard of it, I did question why a commentator was referring to the east the other day.

They’re trying to sell the sport and doing a bad job….they should have learned that with the shergar cup.

The punters are not interested in this.

Another example of dumbing down sport to try and attract bigger audiences. It's completely killed any interest I have in F1, with a set of completely arbitrary rules to try and make the racing 'closer'.

And I'm fed up with hearing 'the Test match is a thing of the past' as people's attention spans are so short these days.

Ye gods, what kind of people are we spawning these days ?! Shocked

Which team won the Racing League last year?
(other than Team Bullionvault, I can't remember the names of any of them.)

I suppose there are some people who actually care about which team wins but they are surely outnumbered big time by those who couldn't care less.

Very hard to get enthused about the regional set-up, obviously the brainchild of someone who knows little about racing's traditions. An interesting alternative might be a racing league featuring the top UK and Irish stables competing individually, but to get any substance to the event sponsorship would be vital as the prize money would have to be huge to get the cream involved!

Load of rubbish…horse racing is just about spent, my first visit on course last week for years wasn’t like it used to be..then this nonsense.

I feel really sorry for the TV presenters.  They are doing their best in difficult circumstances, but deep down they know it's a load of b*llocks.  I bet they can't wait until this is consigned to the dustbin.

So the horse eventually ran and finished 3rd, after the BHA decided to back track on their insistence that rules are rules and it couldnt run.
They cited hopefully its a one off and only a jockey whos unattached could ride.

What does Mr Rishi Sunak and Racing League have in common? They do not know when to quit; ego before common sense and understanding what the punters want.

One cannot polish a turd. And, Racing League is a TURD.
Report CagliariG September 1, 2022 7:49 PM BST
So the punters want Truss then Impossible is that what you are saying and BTW the rules were the League organisers rules and outside of the normal rules of racing sanctioned by the BHA!! HTH
Report sparrow September 1, 2022 8:04 PM BST
impossible is a Truss supporting Tory as we already knew.
Report CagliariG September 1, 2022 8:11 PM BST
1.01 if Truss is voted in a minority will benefit and the most needy/affected will suffer as if the clock had been turned back a few hundred years and then she will either resign or lose the next general election.

looking forward to a day in the near future when we're all glued to sky on transfer deadline day, hanging on every word and clinging to the dream that "the East" is signing a big name jockey at the eleventh hour.
Or maybe not so near.... or maybe I'm dreaming now... and maybe... just maybe... the BHA will actually wake up and realise it was all just a nightmare vision from the very start. End it now, you know it makes sense.

Like so many innovations in any sport, there will be critics who don't like it. If you don't like something, don't watch it! It is not compulsory. I like conditions races rather than handicaps and tend to watch other sports in the evening so it largely passes me by.
Report impossible123 September 2, 2022 11:34 AM BST
I do not like it because it's sh1t racing not conducive to promoting the sport. The clue is...the sponsors. It's by scumbags. When have the scumbags been promoting horseracing, and recreational punters? Closure and restriction of accounts perhaps for those who are clued up and not blinkered, or fobts the gravy trainers?

Put on decent races with good prize money even on the all-weather eg Winter Classic; cull 20% of programme - less is more. There is too much racing; too much carp racing for the benefit of the scumbags. And, too many scumbags masquerading as bookies. I believe a clear distinction between online bookies and online casinos is necessary; cull them accordingly eg suplly and demand to match users and sports; distinguish sports and casinos. And, legislate accordingly.

I can never vote for Mr Sunak despite voted Conservative as a Labour supporter during Mr Corbyn's leadership. Mr Sunak is cheesy, arrogant and too far detached from the ordinary and average British voter. I also believe he thinks he knows more than his ability and experience. I do not trust him; says one thing, does another to feather his own nest and cronies.

Sh1t racing?
They're 50K races, would'nt be out of place on any Saturday card.
Report sparrow September 2, 2022 12:04 PM BST
A full meeting of higher class handicaps is not something I would ever bother with but other people might enjoy it and that is all that matters. One thing I would never want to see is a reduction of meetings which apart from anything else would cause thousands of lost jobs.
Report sageform September 2, 2022 12:11 PM BST
lost jobs where Sparrow?  There is a severe shortage of stable staff which will get worse and on course staff are mainly casual. If you mean bookmakers then I don't see that going down from 4 meetings to 3 would mean many redundancies there. I don't see any real problem so long as there is enough prize money to keep the best horses in training here but there is already a steady export of older horses in training and the jumping end will really suffer if it continues.
Report sparrow September 2, 2022 12:40 PM BST
The better class of horses already have decent prize money compared with the lower classes yet the largest fields remain in Class 6 races as that has the majority of horses in training. If there is a shortage of stable staff then perhaps an increase in training fees may be required to pay the people properly.
Report sageform September 2, 2022 12:50 PM BST
That is one solution but it would mean much higher training fees and then less horses in training at all levels. We have already seen an exodus to France and Ireland to find cheaper training fees and/or more prize money. The shortage of staff is just the same in farming and other outdoor jobs as most younger people are not used to working early morning hours or in cold and wet weather. It will take a lot of money or very high unemployment to entice them imo.
Report sparrow September 2, 2022 12:58 PM BST
Of course sageform we both know the main problem here is that bookmakers do not put enough back into the sport which is not something that France has to worry about. Have we lost a number of stable staff since Brexit I wonder?
Report sageform September 2, 2022 1:20 PM BST
Possibly some from eastern Europe but the main change is that more are from the middle east, Pakistan and India which are not affected by Brexit.
Report impossible123 September 2, 2022 1:32 PM BST
Is it any coincidence the prizes on offer in the Racing League are significantly higher than those that are not? Is it any coincidence the sponsors are bookies? Is it also any coincidence these races are on terrestrial tv, and not just confined to horseracing channels like most?

I do like prestigious and even competitive horseracing but, please not confined solely to handicap races. The Arc offers significantly less prize money than the Sheema Classic, etc, but which race is more prestigious, Arc or Sheema? Similarly, The Ebor or Lincoln. Are these races on the sh1t level as the Racing League?

Fewer trainers and/or fewer horses, if so. But, the industry needs sorting out. I think the BHA will be a good start.
Report CagliariG September 2, 2022 1:39 PM BST
Great philosophy impossible, stop innovation, ban extra money the sport would not otherwise see? Simple to ignore the team format and concentrate on the races as a punting entity. Can see why you are a Truss fan though as you clearly have no understanding of economics just like her?
Report impossible123 September 2, 2022 6:54 PM BST
Innovation? I'd call it lack of foresight and not knowing what the consumers want. Others might be less courteous...arrogance perhaps. The extra money could have been better targeted to mitigate this spiral decline in horseracing.

Economics? I study economics at higher school, but Economics is opened to interpretation given know and variable factors. No PM or potential PM know or can master Economics even Professors of Economics have differing opinions and ways of dealing with any macro/micro situation.

What Mr Sunak was doing in his hustings were "preaching" to the electorates as if he knew it all without considering the immediate negative and major consequences of the less able and affected eg not willing to increase borrowing to alleviate "cost of living" experienced by voters thro' no fault of their own solely because he did not want the debt to be shouldered by the next generation.

Who built this country? The present youngsters? The next generation or their forebears? Mr Sunak likes to hear himself speak; he's smart, but not as smart as he'd to thinks he's.

Mr Sunak did not resign because of "Partygate" (why?) but Mr Pincher - an innocuous individual - immediately after Mr Javid; Javid is not his supporter and neither is Zawawi.

Why? Because he was feathering his own political nest!!
