When is dangerous riding, dangerous riding to the stewards:

53.1 A Rider is guilty of dangerous riding if he causes serious interference by

53.1.1 purposely interfering with another horse or Rider, or
53.1.2 riding in a way that is far below that of a competent and careful Rider and where it would be obvious to such a competent and careful Rider that riding in that way was likely to endanger the safety of a horse or Rider.

The irony of that case is that Crowley was having a go about dangerous riding from Da Silva. Pot kettle.

An enquiry was held to consider interference approximately 2 furlongs out involving ESHAADA, placed
third, ridden by Jim Crowley, the winner, FREE WIND (IRE), ridden by Robert Havlin and KAWIDA,
unplaced, ridden by Neil Callan. Havlin was suspended for 5 days for careless riding as he persisted and
committed for his run into an insufficient gap which was only briefly viable between the running rail and
ESHAADA, causing considerable interference to ESHAADA and KAWIDA, and resulting in FREE WIND
(IRE) turning ESHAADA's hind quarters, which in turn caused both fillies to become severely unbalanced.

the hd on i seen there was a 5-6ft gap between crowley and the rail wen havlin made his move..abso begs belief what the stewards have said.

Are the BHA/Stewards mindful of calling anything dangerous and the media ramifications that looked pretty dangerous to me irrespective whose fault it was.

The worst decision I've seen in many a year. Crowley should have been done for dangerous riding and they have banned the victim. Unbelievable. (I had no bet in the race but I did take the trouble to watch the head-on which I can only presume the bar stewards did not).

Crowley looked over and saw Havlin, but the point was that at that point havlin wasn't in the gap, he was just eyeing it up, Crowley's horse then edged over and closed the gap but Havlin then thought, fook it I'll go for it anyway.

Crowley was setting him up , leaving the door open until Halvin decided to come through ! Then slammed it shut on him !
Nasty piece of riding by Crowley , it`s along time since i have seen such a deliberate act of cheating !

"Cheating"?  What are you on about?  I think the stewards have got it right - Havlin shouldn't have gone anywhere near the gap which was always likely to close.   Piggott got six months for trying that on Gordon Richards so 5 days says just how lucky Havlin has been today.

Havlin took too long to commit, at the start when the gap was there he should have ridden harder and actually got into the gap, he took too long and then panicked when it was too late.

I rarely contribute to controversial issues such as this, so forgive me for doing so now. Havlin's ride is exactly the sort of ride that should be visited with  a ban in weeks, not days. He knew he would win by sufficient if he persisted  with his course but bet he would win by far enough to allow the stewards no  room for DQing him. It was deliberate, not careless, and he nearly brought the Varian horse down. I completely confess to having had a large bet on the RV horse, who, imho, without Havlin, would have won. It is PRECISELY the sort of ride that our rules presently allow, but should not. I am sanguine about things as, no doubt, they "Even out" as they say. Never mind being beaten but....Havlin deliberately hampered the RV horse in order to win. And did so. Job done.

donegal i totally disagree with you , at best the varian horse would have finished 2nd , the winner lost more ground then the varian horse through the interference , yet got going again and won in the end very easily imho, the choice of going up the inner by havlin and crowley seeing this and edging over stopped the winners run and had to be switched ,he then picked up impressively and won going away , tbh both crowley and havlin it wasnt their finest hour , and i wasnt financially  involved in the race

just rewatched on rtv..i know the hd on angle can show in a different light but to me there was a clear gap between crowleys mount and the rail which havlin went for..he is only a 1/2L/nck behind when crowley edges toward rails...ban will be overturned 1.01.

Regardless of what happened the winner was clearly the
best horse in the race.No way Eshaada would've won that.
