Tuned in a few times to watch some of the headline acts and by and large thought it was cr@p. Noel Gallagher and his High flying birds were probably the best of a mediocre to awful bunch, but his tendency to intersperse with the usual profanities was off putting to me at least. Paul McCartney who to my mind should have stopped performing 40 years ago and stuck to songwriting was plain boring, a fair few of the songs i didn't know and were instantly forgettable and the older hits weren't getting me going at all even his duets with the foo fighters bloke and Springsteen(don't these old blokes know when to knock it on the head).
Other acts i caught but quickly turned off were a huge @rsed black woman Missee something who appeared to shout vile swear words and **** whilst her similarly large @rsed backing singers thrust these thong clad mammoth sized backsides towards the audience every ounce of fat wobbling away like some giant jellymoulds. Finally last night some black bloke wearing a crown of thorns shouted very loudly and swore to the mother f@ckers in the audience (who lapped it up), whilst his backing dancers seemed to be pretending to be fighting pranced around him, no idea what he was banging on about, turned over to watch a quite humerous film with some old blokes, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and a few others planning to rob a bank, started to drink a pint of lager, fell asleep and missed most of it, woke up and went to bed, yep i'm getting old! Apparently i missed another OAP Diana Ross doing her greatest hits show, was there anyone worth watching at Glastonbury?

I'll probably skim through the Paul McCartney set on the i-player.  Did a sort of tribute to John Lennon which I've not seen...but why not George Harrison as well?

Another thing..is it all portaloos there?...looking at that heaving crowd, I think I was happy to be well out of it.  To think I once slept under a road bridge near Perpignan for a week in my reckless youth with fellow 'grape pickers' (failed coach expedition).  It turned out to be fun though...

Incredible that the final headline act is a virtual unknown (to anybody in the UK over 20) American rapper,  singing about black injustice, the size of his manhood and shooting people. Diana Ross's voice has completely gone but she was still better than that rubbish.

I was amazed to find how many stages there are per https://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/line-up/line-up-2022/ -obviously TV can't show them all.
But if the best that TV can come up with is the likes of Mccartney, Pet Shop Boys , Crowded House , you have to ask if any really big new groups are going to emerge. A few years ago I was told Elbow and Muse were going to be it but when I listened to them , they gave new meanings to dreary and boring.

Glastonbury is now a rite of passage for thousands of weed smoking middle class kids on a gap-year, attending cos they've heard about it and fancy living rough in a tent, eating over-priced food, and using chemical toilets for the "experience"

The older performers will be generally unknown to them, but the atmosphere overcomes that drawback.

I am one of you older guys, mid 70's and all that and don't forget all this started under our watch in 1969 at Woodstock. Joan Baez my favourite. Well it has moved on from that although it still commands huge crowds and looks great. Like all concerts there is the rough with the smooth because we are all different but I think the drugs and weed and drunkenness is largely behind them. Over 100,000 of all ages and it looked like, and from what I have heard from a couple there, they had a great time. I don't like a lot of the modern music, rapping and all that but there is still a lot to like.

I was a huge fan of Martha Reeves who had an absolutely belting voice in her pomp. I saw her in one of her later appearances on Jules Holland's Hootenany and she was terrible - out of tune and her voice was weak and cracking. She knew it and was very humble and grateful for the applause that she knew she did not deserve.

Just because people are getting older doesn't mean I wouldn't go to watch them, given the chance. And to say she didn't deserve any adulation is to not understand at all. She is 78 years old and tried her hardest to put on the best show she could. That deserves applause. We cannot all be judged, at home and abroad, only on our exploitations of our youth. If she was claiming to be as good or better than before then that is different but she wasn't. And if those watching and attending were expecting that then that is their lookout.
