I did work for Big John for a few Years and have to say he was great boss but you knew your place....You would never call him John in a million years.

Dettori won The Arc on Golden Horn making "that" move when drawn in the car park. Also, numerous times Dettori out-manoeuvred the battalion of AOB in so many Group races. This Ascot is the one Dettori has been below his best nonetheless I'd still have him on my selection esp here.
Gosden (as a professional esp in this sport) ought to have kept his counsel post the race like he did post the Irish Derby when Smullen rode a rare injudicious race on Crackman tracking (wide) the entire battalion (5) of AOB. Gosden twice denied horseracing fans and connections of Jack Hobbs (Godolphin/against Golden Horn) and Cracksman (Oppenheimer/against Enable) in the Arc by not running these two horses despite suitable ground for private reasons. |

I do not doubt Gosden is a good trainer, just do not like his priority for personal and professional reasons for the sport esp when he's in the box seat. I think he was "managed" to run Roaring Lion in the Epsom Derby.

I think people would respect Frankie much more, if he held his hands up, and admitted his ride on Strad was not what you'd expect from him in such a ''high profile'' race ! Honesty is ALWAYS the best policy imvho.

Not so long ago Gosden was slagging off Adam Kirby referring to him as The All Weather jockey.

John Gosden brought Frankie Dettori out of the wilderness. He'd lost his crown at the Godolphin camp after being caught powdering his nose and subsequently started dropping in their pecking order which was somewhat humiliating for him. Gosden singularly resurrected Dettori's career after he was fast becoming the forgotten man. He should have accepted the fact that his ride on Stradivarius was not his finest hour and should have quietly (away from the cameras et al) apologised to Gosden and Strad's owner. If he had they may well have accepted that and moved on but by trying to cover his inept ride by suggesting Stradivarius is no longer quite up to it because of his age was IMO ridiculous and that stance has come back to bite him in the a*s.

I remember when Johnny G averted a major bad news day for racing with his eloquence in the post race tv interview after the 2011 King George when the Godolphin horse Rewilding broke his leg up the home straight.
His media presence has always been impressive. And I have to say that Jack Hobbs wouldnt have had much chance in Golden Horns Arc. Similarly I wouldnt have given Cracksman much hope in Enables Arc. As a trainer he has to live with his jockeys decisions. Frankie D has been a huge bonus in the last 7 or 8 years. Mostly this has come about with Aidan trusting in Ryan holding up his horses and allowing FD first run. This year the boot seems to be on the other foot. Someone at Coolmore seems to have had a word with Ryan while Dettori is perhaps riding less enthusiastically. Even so I have to side with the trainer on the Stradi question. You never want to be wondering what might have been when you lose. |

I think that the public criticism of Frankie might just give an insight into the content of Gosden’s character.
On one hand he says you have to not dwell on the past and move on. Then he goes back and publicly criticises the riding of Franky from the day before in a truly sulky matter with his pet lip in action. I wonder if he is lining up or preparing the ground for sacking Frankie and once again showing a remarkable lack of loyalty to his jockey? Not sure either he or his dreadful Hooray Henry son or Tory grandee wife are much bothered by what ordinary punters think. The current Tory view of the world is that there is one set of laws, norms export rules for the plebs and none at all for the entitled Hooray Henries.. |

There's a 'Frankie' thread on here,people criticising his
riding,there's always many a thread about the T.V pundits not saying when a jockey rides a shocker and they quickly gloss over the fact.I'm not a lover of Gosden,myself,yet when he says it how it is and speaks his mind,he's in the wrong.People can't have it both ways. |

You don't usually dig out your own players in public. I suppose immediately after the event, when they have a mic thrust in their face the stress and adrenaline is still flowing, but doing it again the next day when the dust has settled is something else.

I am not ever in favour of an employee having a go at their staff in public, Is downright rude. It says rather more about the content of the employer’s character than the employed person. Franky has done more to positively publicise racing than any other individual. He is the best jockey since Pigott and won many races he probably shouldn’t have done. A public slagging is totally inappropriate, not least from a top trainer with hundreds of horses to train and yet who still has not managed to work out how to prepare a horse for the Guineas. |

Some bad rides by Frankie this last week no doubt. But Gosden is probably thinking if he doesnt publicly criticise Dettori then from a owners perspective (current or future) it sends a message out that Dettori or any future jockey connected to stable is beyond reproach. Not saying what he did is 100% correct but he didnt exactly throw Frankie under the bus he just had a go a couple of times to enforce his disappointment.
COT - anything you dont bring politics into and to suggest Gosden is not a truly great trainer because of his guineas record is a cheap shot - some trainers don't go gunho early on like Charlton or indeed Gosden its a long season with plenty of big opportunities albeit everyone wants to win a classic. |

in the 28 races before yesterday listening to jocks and trainers 14 of them were won by the wrong horse because their horse should/would have won

Gosden isn't a tv pundit he is a trainer and an employer. He should know better. It shouldn't be the trainer but the pundits criticising but they are so worried they may not get anymore interviews they say nothing.
I am not sure Frankie has ridden anything badly. His defeat in the Oaks was in exceptional circumstances and the future may show he was lucky to get that close to the winner. Stradivarius many on here, me included, didn't think Stradivarius would win and he wasn't beaten far. Frankie had two choices come round the field or stay on the inside. He could only do one of those two choices. Now, with hindsight he took the wrong choice and anyone thinking if he had been closer that a gap would have appeared is purely guesswork. And there were, apparently, loads of horses with hard luck stories at Ascot. |
