Dettori was not man enough to put his hands up for a shocker on Stradivarius..........Dettori did not seem to think Stradivarius was as unfortunate as Gosden did.
He said: "He's run a great race. It got a bit messy when I had to switch, but the younger horses had more legs than me at the end. I had every chance to get them, but they were stronger than me. But it's been a good era for him."
On his passage in the home straight, he added: "I had to pull out for a run, that's the only place I could go because everything was getting tight, but when I pulled him out, he had plenty of time.
"Usually he had the electric turn of foot when he was young but he's not four anymore, he's eight. I laboured a bit at the end and I was never going to get them."
Dettori the clown. WALOFS.

Once again the clock tells a story. Reach for the Moon in its previous three starts had never got close to going below course standard even allowing for the going whereas Claymore`s second in the Craven was well below standard and today he replicated that level of form.No comment re Stradivarius but the better horse on the day won despite any jockey considerations.
Very unusual at this stage of the meeting for Gosden`s stable to be win less but the clock does give Inspiral a good chance tomorrow if she is anything like ready to give her best and maybe Frankie will go from villain to hero.

He's hardly a "clown" given the stratospheric success his career has been. Recently however he has been making uncharacteristic errors, no doubt about that. His ba$$s up in the stalls with the hood was just unforgiveable for a senior jockey and he left Saga far too far back today. I wondered at his tactics with Stradi and even thought the horse was labouring a little with a mile to go but Gosden thinks he kept it too far off the pace and who am I to contradict him. I've thought since Emily Upjohn that the Gosdens might be contemplating a change and I think that looks very likely now. Indeed, by the look of his face behind the stalls in the next, they may well have given him the news immediately after the Gold Cup? he looked anything but happy. All good things come to an end and he has had a stellar career. Funny he chooses Ascot to bu&&er it all up, what.

Far to many on here have short memories. Frankie has been a refreshing Jockey for the sport and his record speaks for itself. However, he will know deep down it wasn't his finest rides of late. But some of things said on here shows their are far to many w@nkers on here who aint got a clue.

I agree. We all have days when things don't go as we would wish and Frankie is no different to others. He is a great ambassador of our sport all around the world and I doubt any other sport has anyone like him so we should cherish him while he is still here. I bet Lester took some stick in his time but we all now look back and wonder at his achievements. It will be similar with Frankie. I am sure of that.

this year he's looked like he's trying to win races with as little effort as he can - he's 51 well passed his physical peak
Fortunately it's the horses that do the running

You can't use his past record to defend his riding this week. I'm sure there will be a summit conference at Gosden HQ after this Ascot meeting is over. All jockeys go through a bad patch but in my view he is not riding as well as he has in the past.

pundits getting in to jocks heads champion jock getting jittery excited overthinking it from 2 miles out because he,s getting a clear run on the inside although i must have missed the haggas interview saying he cant understand why marquand /fallon arnt used by more trainers in top races,

If reach for the moon wasn't odds on and the Queen's horse then it wouldn't warrant a mention.
The Gold cup was a bad ride win or lose. He wouldn't have won but it was still a bad ride.

I have not yet watched the Hampton Court but in addition to a jockey who is not at his very best, the horse was deemed "not ready" for the Derby 2 weeks ago. Despite a few low profile wins, Gosden form is below par this season and Frankie does not ride all of them.

Inspiral is another that was "not ready" earlier so we have to take it on trust that she is back to form. She might hack up but a place only on Sandrine will do for me.

From what I have read of his comments this morning it looks likes like he blames the horse.
Better just keep his mouth shut and concentrate today, it will be a tough day. One or two jocks likely to kipper him up again.

Blaming the horse is not socially or professionally accepted. I think Dettori ought to have taken the age of Stradivarius into consideration eg his pace and the instant acceleration associated are lacking.

I honestly wondered during the race why he didn;t sit and suffer and stay inside and hope that the gap would come - as one actually did - and was stunned when Ruby felt much the same. Has he lost his nerve do you think? I love Frankie and thank him for everything he has given to racing - a huge contribution - and to me in my enjoyment of racing. But something is wrong. I don;t know what it is but he is not the jock he was even a year ago.

Dettori can't take the most detached, constructive criticism, even from the likes of John Gosden. Stradivarius, despite his advancing years was ready and capable of winning yesterdays Gold Cup but his jockey was not.

He's been good, but never great. You can count on your hand the terrible rides given by Piggott, Mercer, Cauthe Et al. (actually I don't remember any. He is in double figures for awful rides.

Many, many years ago when Bruce Raymond was in the twilight of his career he rode a horse owned by Lady Beaverbrook. She made the statement after he lost on one of hers that she felt Raymond lacked fire in his belly and while I'm certainly not suggesting Trawlerman could have even run close today, it was ridden by a jockey that similarly lacks fire in his belly.

Not so long ago some of the posters on here were saying the same things about Ryan Moore, even suggesting that Coolmore should replace him. -- I think it's a bit different for Frankie. He is at the end of his career and I suppose it will be a bad run that would bring on retirement. Don't forget he had a really poor run with Godolphin which he survived well.

the only reason he won is because i decided to jump on the anti-frankie bandwagon and laid the thing. sensed i was in bother so place-laid the septic horse in 2nd. im absolutely useless at this caper

Inspiral could be a serious rival to Baaeed getting a 3yo fillies allowance. She was just awesome and beat 2 Guineas winners out of sight. -- The guineas winners only finished a length ahead of a maiden (although I think she improved and will win a listed/G3 soon if placed properly. They gert the allowance for a reason, I don't think she could ever beat Baaeed.
