A very good ride, went wide in plenty of time to hang over to the rail when it was won.

Stoute winning the Derby. No Coolmore darts, just the best horse, moving like a champion and winning like one, it feels like a flashback to a bygone time and it feels so so good.

AT - I don't know how you can be so dismissive of Westover who obviously
should've been second - he deserves another crack at Desert Crown at The
Curragh (should they both go) though I'd reckon he'd be a 4/1 shot to turn
the tables on that very decent winner.

Hornby, understandably looked gutted.

As for the rest...I suspect you're right in them all being plums, though
Walk of Stars looked very uncomfortable around the track.

yes you're right having viewed it again Westover did get in a mess and cost him his run and should have been second. the rest though I suspect will struggle to win races of any standard

i suspect Stoute will want to wait for the King George unless the owner wants otherwise

always looks to me like he hangs to the right - one for Ascot or the Eclipse perhaps?
Report Gibberish • June 4, 2022 7:35 PM BST
I'm not predicting great things from either but it hasn't fell right for both of them today and
they deserve a chance at the highest level before being prematurely groomed for obstacles Crazy

Westover should definitely head to the Irish Derby (3 weeks away) though that'll obviously depend on
how he comes out of the race earlier, while I'd expect the King Edward 7th beckons for Walk Of Stars.

I don't know where Desert Crown goes next as Stoute hasn't exactly had an aversion to The Curragh over
the years...it's just that he hasn't had the ammunition - there's plenty of firepower with this colt,
so I see no reason why that wouldn't be his immediate target. It's usually a penalty kick for a better
than average Derby winner to follow up in Ireland...and he certainly is that!

The owner ran King's Best at The Curragh a couple of decades ago and that was his next race after
winning The Guineas so I'm assuming there were a few problems in the meantime as he pulled up in the
Irish Derby - he could've been a whopper!

hope not but when available he does ride all stoutes horses....now its more likely in these races aiden will have something though its hard to think other than some outsiders what he would run in the irish derby

not entered in the Eclipse or Irish Derby so i would think King George next
Report brigust1 • June 5, 2022 1:59 PM BST
I think the Eclipse next then Juddmonte then Arc. That's where I would go. Going to Ireland would mean taking on Westover again and in the King George he could meet Emily Upjohn. JG said she would be off until the end of July.
Report lead on • June 5, 2022 2:08 PM BST
Do you think he'd be worried about taking on either of these two,brigust1?
Report brigust1 • June 5, 2022 2:45 PM BST
Not really but why have a hard race? The Eclipse looks an easy target then a good break to the Juddmonte. Going to Ireland means meeting Westover again eliminates the Eclipse. Running in the King George could eliminate the Juddmonte. He has plenty of speed and gets the allowances. They look virtual open goals.
Report differentdrum • June 5, 2022 3:39 PM BST
I always think of the Arc as the ultimate test, so I wouldn't mess around trip wise. If he can't be supplemented for the Irish Derby then the King George followed by a break and a mile and a half trial. If you really want to win an Arc you don't want to go to the well too many times. If all goes well he ends up unbeaten in six, and they can think about experimenting with different trips the following year, should they want to keep him in training.

Of course it all depends on what they want, and the lure of proven speed at shorter trips might prove too much. Stoute has already wasted no time in emphasising his speed, although I would have thought he would quite like to crown his career with an Arc win.
Report geoff m • June 5, 2022 3:55 PM BST
The judmonte aint an open goal if Baeed steps up in trip as expected.
Report brigust1 • June 5, 2022 3:58 PM BST
John Gosden went Eclipse, the had to miss the KG because of the ground, Juddmonte where the horse wasn't ready, Irish Champion Stakes then Arc with Golden Horn. I do prefer 10f horses in the Arc.
Report A_T • June 5, 2022 4:06 PM BST
it's almost unheard of for a horse to win the Arc without a 12f win under it's belt
Report Gibberish • June 5, 2022 4:06 PM BST
Geoff - I think the plan for Baaeed upping in trip is York - I'm sure
I saw Haggis interviewed about taking the 'Frankel' route, heading for
the Queen Anne, then Sussex before The International.

Apparently his next outing could possibly be the King George with The Arc the main target; the Irish Derby is a non-event for a non-Irish Epsom Derby winner. Why would connection want to go to Ireland if the job had been comprehensively done at Epsom? Pointless unless one is Coolmore.
Report Andrew.in.Sweden • June 8, 2022 8:31 AM BST
Desert Crown doesn't need to be supplemented for the Irish Derby, he gets a 'freebie' for winning at Epsom, in fact all entry stage/supplementary fees are returned to the owner.

It's the same for placed runners, in fact there are several other races where this applies, the Irish 2000 guineas and Prix Du Jockey Club. Winners (only) of other GB/European races also benefit with a free entry.
Report ashleigh • July 29, 2022 1:25 PM BST
Desert Crown is unlikely to run again this season, the owner would like him to be aimed at the Sheema Classic.
the minor foot injury must be worse than mentioned.Sad

I believe 1 previous qualifier of a Derby winner running in that race as a 4 year old

High rise ran in it as a 5 year old when it was a g3 and got beat as well.
