I've never heard Sir Cecil ever said that about a horse. Sir Cecil was so adamant keeping Frankel out of 1m 4f including the Derby. He was not for swaying despite the pressure from so-called tipsters/professional pundits either.

I hope Shishkin has not gone the way as Altior post his duel with Cyrname.

"Could Hendo have done what Nicholls did ie withdrew Bravemansgame? Hendo was categoric and adamant it was the ground that undid Shishkin" .

Hayden

"Yes but he did say you don't know until you try"

The horse had won six out of seven on soft going and fell at the 2nd the other time the horse encountered soft going

Add in  his one run on heavy "bit keen, chased leaders, 2nd travelling well before 6th, ridden to lead run-in, soon quickened clear" which resulted in an 11 length romp you would have to say Henderson was talking b0ll0x

Indeed. Something could be amiss with him rather than purely the ground for his undoing. Or he'd be sulking or emptying after the hard race at Ascot.

Hendo does come up with some rather far-fetched reason as an excuse for a below-par performance contrary to form book.

The going would not have affected him until late in the race, if that was the reason for the run.

Clearly something was amiss.

Indeed. That's what annoyed me most; treating some of us as dumb-bells. Maybe Hendo could send him to Ireland next month for redemption to reciprocate the effort by the Irish for the Clarence House.

LOYALHONCHO- I could have called myself EARTH SUMMIT. those were the days Twiston Davies used to get them handicapped with the right horse to win Nationals Grin

Now I did do Earth Summit.  Had that in mind from before Xmas!  Told a new employee to back it and nothing else in lead up week and he looked at me as if I was daft.  Different attitude come Monday morning!  Laugh
Best of it is Culloty was my favourite jockey at the time - just latched on to What's Up Boys after its storming finish at Cheltenham.  And when the avalanche of dosh came for him I was walking on air as I was off on the Sunday for a golfing fortnight with the guys!  Couldn;t believe it when he led and then got passed by the horse he'd just passed himself approaching the last!  Cry
Be lucky!  Laugh

Bindaree gave me so much pleasure on that Saturday. Whats Up Boys as much by nailing me the FC! Best National ever for me. Happy

I thought Tiger Roll hated soft ground Cool - that seemed to run ok... trainers look for any excuse. Soft ground is not to blame for Shiskin in a performance where its beat by the first fence. Its wasn't the Somme - it was winetr ground that Shiskin had consistnetly run and performed on before.

Nicholls jumped ship with Saint Calvados and few today similarly Hendo. Lesson learnt?
