recording racing on a hard drive from virgin box

I currently record from virgin box on to a dvd which i then burn on to a seagate hard drive (do this to record sectional times as racing tv ones are inaccurate) i always seem to have trouble with either dvd recorder or discs ,anyone know if there is a method to record directly from box to hard drive ?
