Remarkable to win like that after that mistake at the second last.

Very strong finisher, clearly he stays better than most of his opponents. Can't see his hurdling holding up in the Albert Bartlett. More interested to see how he does as a chaser further down the line.

Placed well at Cheltenham now twice by his wily trainer. What is he beating though? These pre March races at Cheltenham need to be taken with a pinch of salt. 5/1 is very poor value.

The trainer is very lucky to be holding a licence.

Storm, the new course at Cheltenham isn't a particular test of hurdling, with only two hurdles in the final 3/4 mile (plus hurdling is something a novice can improve).

It shouldn't need any explanation. There are several reasons.

There are never more than a handful of horses that stay 3 miles over hurdles at a true pace so any one that can will be hard to beat.

Racing bosses were also alerted by the BHA to suspicious betting patterns, with the horse drifting out to 8-1 from 4-1 before the off.

Further investigation found that a huge 'lay' bet - betting on a horse to lose - had been placed on Viking Hoard on the Betfair Exchange.

The unnamed layer bet €34,889 (£31,100), half of the entire market on the race, that the horse would lose, returning over £2,850.

There had been two other instances of suspicious betting patterns around the horse, once when £27k was bet on him to lose at Sedgefield in October 2018 and once when £49k was bet at Galway in July 2018.

No CCTV at Tramore where the horse was left "unattended" and the doping supposedly took place.

The race might be changing a bit. It used to favour battle hardened types and was often won by a second season Novice. But lately, its been won by some lighter raced, classier types. It remains to be seen if that's a blip or a new pattern.

He beat the same horse again! As such, could Hollow Game and Ginto represent better value? I think the former is more likely for the potato race than his stablemate.

Will they be split up?

Journey With Me is the interesting one, but you do worry the longer it goes before we see a horse return. He was priced up for all the novice races, but this was always the most realistic target. If he comes out and wins well he will be pushing favouritism.

Blazing Khal will improve again when he gets a stronger gallop to run at. Whether that's good enough up in grade is another thing but the trainer sounds as though he has no doubt.

Can anyone name a GB trained horse that is better than the ones that Blazing Khal beat on Saturday?

Hardly anything has run in these trial races. Obviously, with more than 3 months to go there is more scope for 'new' horses to emerge in the novice races than anywhere other than maybe the bumper. That's why taking short prices in these races is a dangerous game. 5/1 isn't a good price unless you know for sure there is nothing else out there. Blazing Khal sets a standard on very limited evidence.

Well, Journey With Me has come out and won, and is pushing for favouritism. You would imagine he would go 2m6f at the Racing Festival to decide his target. I think the Albert Bartlett is the right race, but Gerry Colombe muddies the waters a little.
