The Information Commissioner’s Office has announced that as part of their pursuit of a “Single View of the Customer” (SVoC), it is their intention that all “behavioural data” of gamblers will be shared from a centralised store. The genesis of the SVoC, which began in November 2020, was to ensure bookies and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) together with the Gambling Commission had an overview of customer data, which would help identify problem gamblers before they become an issue.
In summary:
Bookies will be forced to share “behavioural data” of current customers with other gambling firms and the government-run ICO and Gambling Commission. The ICO has said it expects – in addition to behavioural data – for the Gambling Commission to collect “credit reference data on personal income.” Any gambler who has more than one gambling account will be added to a register of gamblers, which all operators and government will have access to. The SVoC plan poses a clear and unprecedented level of privacy infringement. Bookies will be forced to share personal data with government agencies, including: how much is deposited, where people live, names, addresses. This will develop into the government having the power to oversee credit-referenced data and, ultimately, decide if the person can gamble.

This will develop into the government having the power to oversee credit-referenced data and, ultimately, decide if the person can gamble. Just WOW. The UK is going the same way as the Germany gambling regulations.

the gambling commisions employees wages are far too high imo where is this money coming from also as consumers of an industry it is only fair that we know these employees have understanding of gambling have actually had a bet it would be silly if the bosses say of the gambling commision making the decisions getting paid the lofty wages was never involved in betting before getting the job that would be like a builder putting a trowel down and becoming a boss of rolls royce and making massive decisions about the workforce and there rights

In America joe Biden wants to be able to access all bank accounts with $600+ dollars. This is more of the same thing, universal control, seems to be the way every country is going.

I have one phone account and the firm involved is the only one in the UK that will actually take a bet over the phone. (Mannys)
I would be most interested if any forumite knows of any other book who provides this service?

presume the gambling commission will also be investigating any bookmaker who refuses to lay more than 65 pence on a 9/4 shot, with a view to revoking their bookmaking license ...

Very surprised there hasn’t been more of a drive for a crypto based exchange. It’s blindingly obvious that it’s the only way those full time or larger punters are going to be able to continue. Regulated gambling seems to be coming to a slow end….

I should add that with SG there was no identification required and any winnings are put into your bank account on a Tuesday.
(Obviously a tempter to encourage another punt)

If it was the ethnic background or sexual preference of customers that was being shared, it would be straight to judicial review, but how people spend their money on a perfectly legal activity is for some reason free from the normal constraints.

Reading the 888 financial report yesterday...apparently the Netherlands have restricted betting licences too.
China use skynet to track what everyone does and we baulk at such suggestions, but they are still bringing totalitarianism in drip by drip. In china people get publicly shamed for doing things society deems shameful and their names get published.
