Thats 4 posts in a day. Must be a record for me. For some reason it doesn't accept the 'less than' character and deletes everything afterConfused

Elise: I went full-time back in November 1990, aged 29, which is why I posed the question. The only declarable income I've had since then is interest on savings, and that's been virtually zero anyway for the last decade.

I lost my last bookmaker account years ago, so that's not an issue. But if I ever have to make a deposit on here again, I guess that'll be curtains. As it is, it means I have to keep a 5-figure balance on here, just in case, and I really don't like that. If nothing else, it leaves me open to doing something ruinously stupid, and heaven knows I've done that often enough over the last 30 years. Just not to 5 figures.

not really screaming, im fairly much the same, gave up my job 20 years ago, when i was contacted by bf i asked them to call me which they did, they go through their checklist but they can view your lifetime account so it was nothing more than a checklist on "are you in control on a scale of 1-10", they will freeze your acc if you don't respond but tbh they were ok, i hadn't deposited, i just risk large amounts

Screaming, you can have 5 figures in here and set weekly loss limits to 4 figures to stop you doing anything stupid yet have the
benefit of not needing to re deposit after a loss

in some cases it would be the loss that triggers not the deposit, as above i hadn't made a deposit and if you often get emails saying we want to talk to you about responsible gambling from them you're prob on the list to get a call at some point

Thanks for the tip, jamesdean. The trouble is that if you hit your limit, you're then excluded for the rest of the day. I couldn't face having a disaster on race 1, then spending the next 24 hours watching how I would have definitely got it all back.

Elise: I got one of those we'd like to talk to you about responsible gambling e-mails after that photo at Cheltenham, the one where the judge called a dead heat between two of his former colleagues at Paul Nicholls' yard. I thought about replying that you might like to talk to Guy Lewis, if you're that worried about my account balance, but decided it was best to just ignore it.

They wouldn't get much joy if they rang me up to discuss the matter, with me being deaf. Who knows? Maybe they have. I unplugged the landline years ago.

i just found it easier to discuss, but i was getting those gambling emails daily, what you need to watch for is the one asking to discuss your account or watch for them calling the phone number you have as a contact because if you ignore they will freeze your acc

SCREAMING: Dont need to set a limit. If you have a balance you dont want put @ risk in case of fat finger syndrome put a huge lay in @ 1.01 in an antepost event you can then adjust accordingly as day goes on if you need 2.

Thanks, geoff. Why didn't I think of that?

And thanks to elise for the warning not to adopt my usual response to unwelcome news (ignore it and it will go away).

I told an American friend about Bet Victor and others asking such questions.
His reply.. I would tell them that it is none of their business and if they suspend the account they will be sued for everything that they have in THEIR till. Your information is private and you do not have to give it to anyone, especially someone who is trying to coerce you to do so under threat, thereby denying you of what is rightfully yours.

I'm fairly sure that the USA has similar know your customer/anti-money laundering regs to the UK, so threatening to sue will just result in a lot of CS reps giggling at the angry old man.

Going back about 7 years, I opened an internet account with BetVictr and I got a nice email from them which actually included the line "We really want you to succeed".
16 days later after 3 winners from 4 bets and a profit in excess of £200, I got a nasty email from them telling me that they had closed my account "due to betting patterns" and that I could never bet with VC again.  I don't know exactly how much my profit was because I was blocked from logging on, but it was less than £300.
Wondering whether anyone else has had an email from them saying that they really wanted you to succeed?

American friend replied
Whomever answered you doesn't understand it doesn't work the same way with the pari-mutual system. Does he actually think we have bookies? You bet in person for the most part your tax is paid immediately.

Does he actually think we have bookies?

Wat?

Just one example that you should be familiar with:

William Hill's £2.9 billion takeover by Caesars Entertainment was completed on Thursday, with the casino giant reiterating its intention to sell the bookmaker's businesses outside the US.

Caesars said the acquisition gave it "ownership of one of the world's leading betting and gambling companies and gives the company the ability to maximise the opportunity within sports betting and online gaming in the US".

I would not give a bookmaker details of my income for all and sundry to look at.

That would mark the end of my online betting.

Intially on my Bet Victor account I could not get past their message.Yesterday they sent one of their weekly offers and accepting that let me back in. Not that it really matters as they are the ones I use least.

^^what has that got to do with anything?  Racecourse books or the tote in the UK don't ask for your occupation either.  Quite obviously this entire conversation is about off course.

setting max exposure limits is almost always a sound idea, which is why i brought mine down to 3k, having done some daftees when laggo but it did me no good on the arc. put in a lay for adayar turning in when i thought it was knackered for500 at 6, which stayed in the system

backed a couple of others and then saw winner coming on outside and multi-clicked only for max exposure to kick in and only got 100 matched at 28 when i could have got 5 times that had i not had such a low exposure limit.

You can't even trust the scrotes with your email address (dodgy casino offers) or landline (Prince Monolulu tipsters), certainly not going to trust them with personal financial info (Sinn Fein membership).

for a bookmaker to continue to have a licence they are going to need to show due diligence re protection of vulnerable people or face fines and restrictions, so plenty of other non vulnerable punters might get caught in the fallout, they've already been given a minimum standard they need to comply with, they are being asked to consider going beyond that, what's missing at the moment is an industry standard and the full appreciation of how this impacts on non vulnerable / full timers etc, pretty sure that will come but expect some overkill by certain bookmakers until things settle
