Just read in my local paper that a family had booked into a local hotel, and travelled nearly 6 hours from down south only to receive a phone call when the were almost there to tell them that their booking had been cancelled due to them allocating rooms to Afghanistan Refugees. Says in the paper that when contacted by them that the Hotel refused to comment.

Good luck to them both, the refugees on their new journey, and the Hotel owner who must think its Christmas come early.

I read the news briefly the other day and there was something about the U.K. taking in 5,000 Afghanistani Aplacas. Where are they going to be homed that's what I want to know?ExcitedConfused

Just what we need after all the trouble with Geronimo.

The big scandal is surely the exact same scenario but much more widely spread - where hotel and holiday home owners contacted people with a long standing reservation to cancel (stating Covid and mumbo jumbo about cleaners as an excuse) - and then re-advertised them at hugely inflated prices to cash in on the staycation bonanza. Welcome to rip-off Britain - where making a quick buck is the priority over decency, honesty and integrity.

No Afghan refugees were involved in that scenario - so I don't suppose it is newsworthy for the likes of the Daily Mail and the Express.

That's where cancellation insurance/compensation should work both ways. The airlines ramp up prices when particular events get scheduled but at least that's prior to bookings.

The UK never takes its fair share of refugees. This is without taking into account the fact that behind the US, the UK gov was the main proponent of the war in Afghanistan.

die linke,

pardon my lack of knowledge on world affairs BUT i thought the main propondents of afghanistan war were taliban/ISIS/AL Qaeda?

without them kicking it all off afghanistan would be a peaceful loving country covered in beautiful red poppies.
