myself and others have devoted loads of threads on this rancid outfit . please , please read them ....its the worst value in the whole world of racing .

total disgrace nothing to do ith racing greed and profit under the umbrella of horseracing ..awful

Yes,it is my intention to restrict my visits to Monday-Thursday for the foreseeable future.
Am going to Hamilton next Sunday however,so fingers crossed. I think the thing to do is to check if there is any Pop Music afterwards. |
By:
the quality of the racing is rubbish , you cant see a thing unless you watch from the walls outside . booze prices are high, comfort is low . its a day nightclub for pretend cheshire housewives and for pretend scouse footballers .

spot on windsor... grim
10,000 there yesterday absolutley rammed |

Said years ago I would never go again. Worst day out any real racegoer can buy. This lot don't deserve to run what was a pretty course with a long history. Shameful commercialised organisation. Most of the crowd only interested in booze, the authorities only interested in profit and the staff only interested in jobsworthiness . If thats a word.

spot on brians- real shame as i said i wont be going back and its my local racecourse sad days indeed
By:
Commentator constantly going on about chester bet prices before race set off. He said one horse was 100/1 on chester bet but as it was only 50/1 in ring no punters would be able to get the 100/ because chester bet pays sp less 10%.
Thats very misleading and they should be had up under trade descriptions. |
By:
tote should also be had up skally they keep advertising they at least match sp ,punters at dony on friday paid £1.10 stradivarius
By:
Abysmal place , i'd love to buy it then get the bulldozers in and turn it into a greyhound track , it's ready made.

I've got a few courses in my bucket list of ones I've never been to, Cartmel and York being at the top but after reading about the place from many of you on here Chester will never be on that list.

You should definitely go to York, slippy,in the top 3 in the uk in my view.shouldn’t fuss about cartmel viewing very limited.as for Chester, the may meeting used to be one of my favs but a combination of the idiot clientele & greedy management make it a no no.
By:
i,d suggest dante meeting for 1st visit, enough for an atmosphere without been over run, saturdays no,no even at york
By:
I went once about 30 years ago and will never go again.

This thread wants printing out and sending to the Chester Management. Free market research, they should thank us.

By:
on racedays do chester employ stewards to stop people gathering around the walls to view
By:
dont think they would be the slightest bit interested brians,
Its packed out every time it opens its gates, never seen so much security guards around a racecourse. They have set their stall out to attract the party and booze goers. Cant see it changing any time soon. Bangor on Deee,Haydock and Uttoxeter will be my future local visits to the races |

Never understood why they did not develop a racecourse in Manchester

Good link Sparrow. I went to Castle Irwell when I was 8 in about 1958. As can be seen on the film the strangest thing to me then was that the jockey number boards obscured the finish from the grandstand !
By:
The race in the video was won by Regret, at 66/1 with a fifteen year okd jockey , Jimmy Walker. He never really made it and left tacing in 1951 aged just 19. He could still be alive , around 86 now.

A lot of the comments in this are bang on.........yet in other ways Chester is a great meeting ......THE BEST FREE VIEW IN SPORT!!!...as they say .....Had a great couple of days there last weekend..........mind you being a tight wad i also watch from the back straight at Stratford and Worcester......{both great views}........the car park at Ludlow & York.....lockdown certainly taught me the best ways of going racing on the cheap!!!!!
