overhead.volley around trhe net etx by over 60%
basically not realising he,s rubbishing a grand slam as he spoke,a young lady who can improve her game by 50% plus wins a slam without dropping a set
means if she doesnt do it again not only not miproved an inch but can backwards from 50%,
usually uk media  she,sw young she can only get better, best example michael owen argrentina rather than been a starting point it turned out to his pinnacle at international level, same with rory he,s got steadly worse as he,s got older

Report Wesdag September 14, 2021 12:50 PM BST
All this talk about her not having beaten a top 10 player really is farcical.

The current top 10 isn't packed with legends of the sport ffs.

The current 2,3 & 4 ranked players have been in 2 slam finals between them (Pliskova 2).

Bottom line is, Emma will be seriously competitive against anyone in the top 10 because basically, they're not a fantastic set of players.

I think winning the US Open does not automatically mean she's top of her class. However, repeating the same achievement at Wimbledon will go a very long way towards it though. But, 1st she'll need to be involved in semi-finals (at least) in the next few impending tournaments if she's to be considered a genuine star of the near future.

She's a breath of fresh air to British Tennis with her steeliness and determination she showed in the US Open.

Yeah she will make a fortune from sponsors and adverts, here, in America and in China since she speaks the lingo.

But it was a joke based on her parents being fx (foreign exchange) traders, as had just been reported in this thread.

And then I was just struck that everyone (papers etc) is throwing around the £1.8M figure but somewhere down the line she will only get less than half. Lots of sports people end up skint because they take the net figure, start spending, and then don't have enough left for the tax bill. Though if I'd left that out, maybe the joke would have been more obvious.

From the Telegraph's report of the Tiffany deal:-

Raducanu’s only two existing endorsement deals are with sporting brands and are set to be eclipsed, quickly. Raducanu is signed to one-year rolling contracts with Nike and racket supplier Wilson, worth “only” £100,000-a-year when combined. After the status elevation from Tiffany & Co., these are expected to swiftly be replaced by rival brands or renewed for at least 10 times their previous value.

There could be a variety of reasons why the parents were a no show. One thing is probably true - that those parents who don't molycuddle and reward their kids too easily, generally instil a determination in their offspring to do better. Whether this helps them become settled, rounded people in later life, is open to question. Having said that, ER seemed like a very sweet, happy little 11 year old when interviewed as an u12 UK national finalist.

Agassi hated the game as a kid but did it cos his dad pushed him and was determined to live up to expectations. Roddick's dad was a disciplinarian of military standard. ER has that steeliness that is very rare. She talks about executing and understands that winning is a mentality - she has self belief in abundance and thrives under pressure (despite her wobble at Wimbledon). We haven't see the likes of her in the woman's game in most of our lifetimes. Anyone who thinks she is a flash in the pan, like a lot of the others we've had in GB, is mistaken. She really is that good and the level of the final was very high... not to drop a set in qualifying or in the main draw is good going. The main danger to her is embracing the celebrity lifestyle.

She might not fulfil her potential immediately. Sampras won very little for a while after winning the US open at 19 and she'll have a target on her back. But she'll follow in the footsteps of Seles and Hingis as young slam champions. Little doubt for me.
Report olddesperado September 25, 2021 6:41 AM BST
Sacked her coach apparently.
Report Ramruma September 25, 2021 11:50 AM BST
She changes coaches more often than she changes socks. The guy who has just been sacked replaced the coach she had at Wimbledon. Nothing to see here.

Aiui, she hires a coach based on what specific part of her game she feels needs improvement, then moves on to the next one. The danger is, I suppose, that the very top coaches might prefer something more permanent.

Who is making these decisions for her, a manager, LTA or her parents?
Report The Management September 25, 2021 12:04 PM BST
"Sacked her coach" is a bit harsh - Andy Richardson was only ever there on a week to week type basis and was essentially just a "chaperone" and friendly face from her past while she was in the States. Pretty sure they would also have ended that temporary arrangement if she had lost in the first round of qualifying.

Report Hayden August 31, 2022 10:39 AM BST
Fernandez was unseeded last year but now ranked 13 in the world.

Raducanu had to win 7 matches to win the trophy last year and was a qualifier herself.

She beat 5 x unseeded players , one ranked 11 and one ranked 17 to lift trophy.

Basically the draw just fell apart for one reason or another.

Sorry should have added , as a response to Lovegod's question..

Fernandez had a totally different path to the final beating Osaka ( 3 ) , Kerber ( 16), Svitolina ( 5 ) and Sabalenka ( 2 )

In the top half as soon as Barty , Pliskova , Kvitova , Swiatek and Andreescu flopped before the 1/4 final you were left with no slam pedigree in that half and the draw became extremely lop sided.

But, it's become even more disgusting when proper sports people are often mostly ignored in the voting/presentation (e.g. Alun Wynn Jones failing to even place top 3), while the awards now faun over sub groups such as females in short term success and against weaker competition in their sports. This will be reflected again with oozing fauning over the women's football team this year...(vomit).

Emma's body must be made of glass. Last year she was forced to pull out of various tournaments with injuries to her hip, back (twice), abdomen, glutes and wrist. And when she can play, she can't grip the bloody racket because her hands are covered in blisters.

A couple of days into 2023, it's her ankle.

Maybe it is the opposite problem from not being arsed, and Emma needs to take time to recover fully so that she does not stress one part of her body while guarding whichever part she injured last time.
