They know that people are desperate to get out and about and are taking full advantage. People say the bookies are destroying the game, I would say take a closer look at the racecourses. Media rights payments, levy payments, race and other sponsorship payments and now the admission money will come rolling in again. Where's it all going? Because its certainly not all going into the prize money, I would say only a fraction of what they make goes towards it. Look at the prize money on offer at Salisbury tonight. Derisory!

Do the racecourses get a cut of the catering profits too? When the "music" nights start up again they will be raking even more in. Racecourses should be made to throw open their books.

heard chester bet at the last meeting were 7/2 while the books were 7/1 on a winner of 1 of the races!
sadly, be plenty delighted with their £45 for a tenner. blissfully unaware they've just been robbed.

There is a lot out there. Unfortunately society has made the separation from the rich to the poor a big chasma.... there are people out there earning more in 60 seconds then many earn in a lifetime. Always been the case, but the middle people are closer to poverty then being rich.

Even if you earn a £1bn a year, it's only £9k+ a minute, assuming 35hrs aweek 52 weeks a year. If you were on the dole you'd get more than that in a lifetime.
Personally, they'd have to pay me to go racing at Chester.

Unbelievable prices...last time I went to Chester decided never to go again as it was too crowded and very time consuming to queue up for drink and over priced food.

It looked deserted on ATR,they did send emails out to their loyal customers on Wednesday offering it at half price but obviously too late, same half price offer at next meeting.

been once but did not enjoy it, horrible crush points, impossible to move around. Not a nice experience, think cow at cattle market type day, at 60 quids I would find a nice spot to take advantage of from outside and watch the action for free.
everyone seemed overdressed, not like a race crowd I had seen anywhere else, not an experience I could recommend.
Unfortunately this mob have taken over Musselburgh, won't be back there either.
Give me Catterick, Perth, Beverly or Aintree any day of week.

Can't believe they charge that much, very uncomfortable with large crowds, they can keep it at that price and the same goes for Cheltenham in many ways, ridiculous prices pricing the poor out.

Went on a Ladies Day about 5 years ago, long trip from here. Cleavage City. Actually watched a couple of races from the road above, place looked packed. Walked back to the station and went home

A racecourse group's chief executive has been sacked over the "misuse" of company resources, its chairman has announced.
Richard Thomas's contract with Chester Race Company (CRC) was terminated following "a thorough investigation", Ian O'Doherty said in a statement.
A company spokesman said his dismissal related to the "authorisation of work, expenses and payment of invoices for a personal project".
Mr Thomas has been asked to comment.
CRC owns and operates racecourses in the Cheshire city of Chester and in Bangor-on-Dee, near Wrexham in North Wales.
Mr Thomas had been at the firm for 20 years and had recently announced plans for the return of spectators as coronavirus lockdown restrictions ease.
However, he was not present at Chester's May meeting.
they maybe need to get funds in

First went on Summer Cup Day in 1976. Back then, they only had the May meeting and the Summer Cup one which clashed with the final day of the Open Golf Championship which at the time finished on a Saturday. Was a pleasant racecourse to visit then but due to greed and the audiences they have lately targeted , it's gone badly downhill since. My last visit was on the day Sir Dragonet won the Vase. Got there early, was only going in Tatts but was given the treatment by three half witted gatemen, and an ugly, butch gatewoman - asked to open my coat to see whether I adhered to dress codes ( for Tatts!) then when I told them I'll go in the Silver Ring to avoid this nonsense, ( I was at the entrance which has access to both), they asked me to empty my pockets and gave me the option of eating my homemade ham sandwich or binning it. When I bought my Silver Ring ticket the no mark who took it and gave me half back said " Make sure you keep that because if you are asked to produce it and can't you will be asked to leave!". As I was descending the steps I heard one of his colleagues say, "They just think they can turn up. ".

the course enclosure was very popular at chester but they dont really want people in there as they dont spend enough, last week people were getting emails offering tickets at half price when the realised they had not sold anywhere near the 4,000 they expected to sell, the gatemen who verbotene refers to might have been the same ones who asked a friend of mine a regular racegoer what was he doing bringing binoculars into a racecourse.
the regulars at musselborough are in for a shock .

A classic example of an attraction that thinks it is so famous they don't have to try anymore . Lands End, Leaning Tower of Pisa , Colosseum , Chatsworth, etc they have all treated me as though I had no right to be there except as a cash cow. Compare this with how I am treated at Pontefract or Wetherby. You leave these places with a smile on your face as even the gateman in the car park wishes you a safe journey home. Having been in management for over twenty five years I know that the staff you get are results of how you train them and treating people as humans is session number 1. Chester staff treat you as an enemy . The course thinks it is as iconic as Epsom or Newmarket , it isnt. You would ( and I have ) had far more respect from a chance meeting John Gosden, Tim Easterby or Nicky Henderson than anyone representing Chester Racecourse.

They've completely priced out the common man (as if they care).
There are only so many Cheshire housewives and footballers who will pay those prices
Aintree is so much better..

I've never been to Chester races and after reading this thread I never will either! I wouldn't mind paying £60 to get in if I was going to be properly catered for and made to feel welcome but that wouldn't be the case at Chester it would seem.

you would also get shyte odds if backing with their "chester bet" which will make no difference to the type of clientel they attract ie footballers .poseurs, mugs and footballers wives etc.i also have never been and never will.

next fixture cheapest tickets £60 or to get to see the horses in the paddock £80 which is more expensive than royal ascot which has superb facilities and the best racing in the world.

go to york far better, they know how to treat there customers, juddmonte day , £35 tatts, £15 in middle, top class racing, drinks are reasonable, tho not for me i have a expensive wife and daughter! the days of half a lager and if you want a cocktail put some lime/blackcurrant in it are a distant memory for me. Been to chester numerous times but will not be going again, too busy, cramming people in for bog standard racing, a disgrace what they are charging proper racing people need not apply

Just read this thread and agree with brians, was astonished at those admission prices and surely only people with more money than sense would pay that, only been there once and would never go again, awful place and as for keeping out the riff raff, 99% of the upper class t**ts paying that obscene amount behave far worse than the riff raff

I'm sure what Chavman meant was keeping the riff raff away from the town centre , so a good chance for some decent shopping time with all the idiots crammed into the racecourse.

I worked there for 6 months in 2002, really enjoyed it. Was a beautiful city. Went to the races on the Sunday family day...was a good do. Fallon rode a treble and trap one made all in the 5 furlong dash, 16s > 12s

The racecourses appear to be desperate to get their lost revenue back as quickly as possible.went to Brighton on Tuesday 2 sausage rolls(looked remarkably like greggs 60p jobs) £9.90.
