Hi Jon....only one for me today, the 5.50 Ripon ....hoping for a bigger price later on Blind Beggar, as I think it`s greater experience will help it on this undulating course...Cant see it being out of the PLAICE`s at least.

Morning Jon - I got stuck on some outdoor chores yesterday (trying to beat the weather) - I had nothing (for this thread) anyway.

Today looks more promising - I have gone the other way round from you (i.e. Singles first - probably a few doubles to follow):

16:35 Lingfield: Persaria - Each Way - 1.5 Stakes - take the 9/2 imo (if you can get it!)
16:35 Lingfield: Swiss Flamingo - Each Way - Half Stake - take the 50/1 imo (if you can get it!)

Probably no other EW singles for me - but some EW doubles with Persaria as the banker look possible. GL

The 9/2 & 4/1 on Persaria (16:35 Lingfield) is now long gone (it was always going to happen!) but it's been a while since one of these races didn't just have the dead-8 runners, making it difficult to take an early price EW without worrying overly about a Non-Runner impacting the place terms.

I'm a bit annoyed that Swiss Flamingo hit 66's (in places) not long after I took the 50's - but obviously that's a pretty speculative (place focussed) EW bet - partly because I'm not crazy about Perfect Dream and partly because I hope the draw might play a small part in the race for the places.

Waiting for non-runners (in other races) means I have missed the 4/1 & 9/2 for Persaria for EW doubles purposes, so with enough eggs in that basket already - I think I'll give the EW doubles a swerve (at least in terms of thread bets). GL.

I`ve gone across the water fishing today ....3.30 Roscommon Melliferous...I can`t see it not being in the PLAICES at least, and the 5.40 Killarney Fictitious Lady, who should have come on for her debut and was also badly drawn that day.Both e/w and a double.

Morning chaps.  I used to bet quite a bit on the Irish 37 but after going through my bets I found that the vast majority of the dreaded fourth plaiced horses were happening over there and I think it must be down to the bigger field sizes.  Having said all of that I did cast an eye towards Tumultuous 1.30 Roscommon with only 9 runners.  Barely dusty though.

Backed Gordons Jet at 5/2 in the Sedgy race.  Beat everything but a 100/1 poke.  You sometimes know when to pack in for the day.

The problem I have with the Irish racing (both flat and NH - although I very rarely play the NH anyway) is the dominance of a handful of trainers. That should be good - i.e. for EW thievery you are looking for non-competitive races - and it does translate well, in as much as the betting shape of nearly every stakes race run in Ireland could be described as at least "mildly dusty".

However my reality is similar to yours Jon, in that (if I still played it) I would have far too many unplaced selections (even in the relatively filthy Irish races). 

Due to the lack of utter filthy races - my preferred use of e-way betting is EW doubles where one of the selections (Horse A) is a banker and runs (usually) in the sole utterly filthy race that day. With only that one totally filthy race available - I couple this with a handful of "dusty EW" races (Race B,C,D,E, etc) for the EW doubles. So in that example 5 selections would only result in 4 x EW doubles consisting AB, AC, AD & AE. Played correctly the place only element will be profitable - any win money running-on is a bonus and/or an opportunity to at least trade/recover the win stakes.

To cut a long story short - it involves putting a lot of eggs in one basket and I'm very comfortable doing that if the race is right for it - but my banker ("Horse A") has not been from an Irish race for many years and probably never ever will be!

In essence the betting shape of most stakes races over there makes it appear like it should be an absolute paradise for filthy EW bettors, in reality it just isn't  - that's just my opinion - but it's based on experience and data too. GL.

And Tumultuous at Roscommon comes ...... 4th.  I'm with you TM it's not for me anymore.  Hope yours go well 37.

I haven't played over there today 37 (apart from the handicaps) - but I'd be a place layer of the shorties any day of the week in preference to betting each-way in most of their stakes races. There is a nice EW betting shape in pretty much every race but plenty of them finish out of the money.

GL with the 17:40 (it looks a play to me too) - but it's a brave man that does an EW two-bet imo

Yeah - they don't fook about over there with the market moves - you get the odd subtle one - but generally if they come for one they come for it properly - likewise if they don't like one - it just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

I actually got more matched  (not massive) on the irish site, which I use for football and some racing...It has always been useful during these crashes.....I am actually running out of patience with this lot...the service etc is getting worse...even the shares i have left in them are finishing 4th atm!!! !!!

Hi 37 - sorry to hear that.

Respect for voting with your feet - if everybody did that things might have to improve. The decline was inevitable imo once the traditional books got involved and took control. It feels like they are more than happy to see the exchange model stagnate, seems like they operate a strategy of "isolate, contain and control" - i.e. tolerate exchanges merely to keep that element of the customer base ringfenced away from the core business.

Unfortunately, I think treating customers with contempt is par for the course across the industry. Best wishes wherever you end up mate.

The 18:50 Bath and the 19:30 Dundalk look the best of a bad bunch for this kind of betting today - nothing really doing for me. GL.

Morning Jon - I have got nothing solid  - all three of the stakes races at Newmarket (17:30, 18:05 & 19:15) look a bit dusty - but they also all look a little bit "lurky". They are the sort of races I would be happier about playing if there was something solid/confident to double them up with - hopefully we get a "standout" one day soon! GL

Deja Vu (all over again) - a handful of mildly dusty races and nothing that stands out (to me) as a banker to couple them up with.

Obviously there was no banker yesterday either - but the three "dusty" races all resulted in places at 5/1, 11/2 & 15/8 - so it's always a bit irritating to see the running-on place money racking up but not have had anything to couple them up with in EW doubles.

Dusty list today is 1.15 Newb, 1.50 Newb, 2.55 Newb and 3.20 at HQ.  No filth again it seems thinner on the ground than ever at the min.

Scratch that 1.50 from the list it hasn't got a speck of dust on it !!

Hi Jon - agree the 13:15, 14:55 & 15:20 are the best of a bad bunch today - but that still just doesn't make them good enough (for me) to play in EW singles. It really has been slim pickings lately. GL mate.

Hi Jon - both the 17:40 and the 18:15 at Kilbeggan went to the full-on proper filthy selections - but I couldn't bring myself to play either of them in EW singles! - Managed to get on the winner (EW) for a nice few quid in the 13:15 Newbury (Achelois) but screwed that up pretty badly on the price - then unfortunately decided to swerve the 14:55 there as well.

Would likely have played all of those if there was a "standout" to couple them up with. Happy with the single (13:15) but all in all, another day of what might have been. Catch you tomorrow.

Morning all.  Yet another thin day.  I liked the look of Ebro River 6.05 at Donny but the 5/2 is long gone and it's the dead 8.  3.20 Thirsk was the next on my list, dead 8 again so i'll just wait and see there.   I'll keep an eye on the 1.55 Nav as well but my ventures across the Irish Sea are few and far between these days.  A few specks of dust but no filth that I can see.

I liked the same as you Ebro River (18:05) but only at the (fictional) tissue price and the early prices are now long gone (and as you say - couldn't really be taken EW due to the NR fear factor). I thought the 17:15 Uttoxeter was worth a second look as a possible EW bet to nothing at 4/1 - but it's NH, it's a dead-5 runners and the trainer is 1 from 116 . Looks like another day of place laying in the Handicaps for me. GL.

Morning.  Same old story today for me.  No filth.   I'll keep and eye on 4.35 Ripon (dead 8 ) with four of the eight runners complete rags at 66/1 plus it might have some dust on it.

Morning Jon - you know it's pretty grim for filth when you find yourself double checking a Novice Chase at Wexford!

I really quite liked First Light in that Ripon race (16:35) - but a couple of things have stopped me from playing it. As ever - the dead-8 runners means we can't take an early price for fear of a non-runner changing the place terms (so all the 11/4+ is now long gone). Also have a slight concern about the form of the yard - Gosden usually operates at about 20% but has only had 2 winners from his last 30 runners (and those winners were the brilliant Palace Pier & the potentially brilliant Derab).

So that raises the other familiar dilemma - it's too short to back EW, so we need a drift near the off (when it looks like 8 still run) - but do we want to be backing a late drifter from a yard that isn't in the best of form? - the game can drive you mad! - Day off (from the filthy EW's) here imo. GL

A bit annoying to see First Light win so easily - but 11/10 in a 7 horse race is not nearly the same as 11/4 in an 8 horse race!

Tomorrow looks potentially the best day for a long time with 4 UK flat cards that aren't all handicaps - but it again looks like if there are a couple of (ground related) Non-runners it could scupper the day. Here's hoping not.

Morning all.  I'm off to Redcar today and it looks like there could be a filthy dead 8 with the novice at 2.30.  Two problems though it's the dead 8 again and the horse was awful last time out.  Other than that I've got two other dead 8's (3.20 and 3.55 Carlisle) down as dusty.

Kind of glad in a way about the 14:30 to be honest - the maths/shape dictates that Copper Queen would have had to be the EW bet (if 8+ ran) - and I was struggling badly to warm to it enough to make my day revolve around it as an EW banker. A bit relieved that the decision has been taken out of my hands.

Pleased to have swerved this 14:30 Redcar (due to NR's rather than good judgement) - but the race and the market for the places is fascinating - the friendless and more exposed Copper Queen has her best form on soft/heavy - the Botti horse (Fire In The Rain) finished 3rd behind the horse that finished 3rd in the Oaks trial! - and surely there is better to come from Ghazaaly at some point. An excellent puzzle - but too hard for me!

Hi Geoff - pretty chuffed about the NR's to be honest - I couldn't (on principle) have let an 8 runner race with a 1/5 fav pass me by without betting something EW - but really didn't like Copper Queen much - so happy enough to have the NR's solve any dilemma.

A bit concerned about the drop down to 7f - but I have had a half-stake EW on Victorious Knight at 4/1 (15:20 Carlisle)

Yep The Management over the years some of the 8/9 runner e/w steals against short odds on end up invariably in a 7 runner event due to non runners .
TO the extent i wondered if there was an element of skullduggery on the bookmakers side . Cynic that i am.

A strange day yesterday - lots of fairly dusty races and a few winners (Jewel In My Crown was probably the most annoying swerve) but I opted not to play any of them.
Today EW bets look very thin on the ground - in the 18:35 Kempton the shape of the betting indicates Super One maybe ought to be the EW bet - but the two races where he has finished runner up have gone on to produce absolutely zilch imo - so unless gelding and some blinkers make a big difference to him, I'd be more interested in laying than playing. All in all - Grim stuff (for EW filthsters) today imo. GL.

Morning all.  The 5.40 and the FTO at 7.25 went down the toilet yesterday as well so things can only get better I suppose.  Can't see much at all today.  You could make a case for the shape of 7.20 at Catterick(22's bar the front 3) and the 5.50 at Downpatrick (16s bar the front three) but an Irish bumper probably isn't the way forward after a bad day ..

Had to back Mayelf at Catterick.. The fav keeps getting beat and the second fav will hate the ground.....

As per my 10:59 post yesterday - I think I dodged a couple of bullets with the dusty EW options in the 17:40 & 19:25 both running unplaced and both those races going to huge priced "lurkers" - but the races (I didn't love but played anyway) weren't great either, so the thread bet P&L is currently going downhill faster than Franz Klammer!

I started the new thread specifically for the turf flat but proactively dodging the NH races (for thread bets) has cost me a hatful of nice priced winners already - the turf flat has been a bit disastrous so far tbh (for Filthy EW's) and I think ALL of my winning (thread) bets have actually been on my beloved All Weather. Even that went a bit t1ts-up yesterday, so just trying to shake it up a bit really. GL.

Twilight Spinner (14:05 Haydock) just paid Blind Beggar (19:20 Catterick) a huge compliment Skip

But that Ripon race where they were 1st and 2nd was a proper strange one tbf - with the draw (width of the track separating them) and the hugely disappointing 3rd fav (state of Play - a massive drifter) turning out to be "lame". Blind Beggar now shortened up again anyway but the rest could be running for places.

Schoolboy error

The 19:20 Catterick is already now down to 7 runners - I didn't want to play early for that very reason but got sucked in chasing what I thought might be a diminishing price. So the vast majority of my EW bet on Mayelf is now 2 places only (although no R4's yet and quarter the odds a place).

I did manage to get a whole £14.19 of my bet matched at 6.00 in the highly liquid BF EW market (so still 3 places for a fraction of my bet). It's really not been my week on the EW filth - but at least the bad ground Handicaps have been fairly obliging to subsidise this sh1te! GL

It makes me feel slightly better TM that you have struggled as well this week ..........its be horrendous in truth......personally i think i am selecting and betting to early...........that and a chronic lack of discipline...Oh well lets see what today brings....

Hi Skip! - yeah, I think I've been trying too hard (and pressured myself into looking for "action" where there is none). I certainly bet way too early yesterday! Happily other betting avenues have been ok (I do love a bit of win/place laying in the 4YO+ handicaps when the ground is bad/soft/heavy). Confidence plays a huge part in this game (imo) and I think I need to take a short break from the filth (this thread) to concentrate on other avenues and come back when I feel a bit more positive about it, refreshed and more patient.

It would be a lot easier (like nearly every other selection thread on here) to just started a new thread for every race/selection, also if I didn't bother trying to be honest with the prices or if I didn't keep a running total of the P&L - it does add a lot of (self-inflicted) pressure; I have no idea why, given that I suspect there are only 3 of us reading this! It would also be very easy just to quit or start another thread - but I'll be back soon, pick up from where I left off - and hopefully turn it around. GL - catch you in a day or two.

I have had two stakes Each Way on Praiano (19:15 Carlisle) at 4/1

In addition to that I got a whole £3.34 matched on here in the EW market at 5.20 - the worlds leading betting exchange!
