For the non horse racing population, the offence is equivalent to a care home worker having a pic sitting on a recently deceased 91 year old lady from Dundee.
Were that to happen, 6 months  receiving pay, (but via a different name on the pay check).

If we can't police racing effectively, it will be taken out of our hands by the anti racing faction.

I was of the opinion he needed a big punishment and am more or less satisfied with the judgement today but if it's just a name change over the door and business as usual then feck that.

He needs to be barred from the premises during his ban imo or It's just a joke.

Its similar to another case a few years back

We all know he'll still be training them from his bedroom window ffs, he just wont be at the races

Its quite sad really, the media made a meal of it and as usual there's nothing really happened

probably wise of GE not to open up another scandal by sticking a name up, especially if it's the one being rumoured the other day
Report Cuthbert March 5, 2021 9:53 PM GMT
I love horses, and I love this sport, I have since watching night nurse and sea pigeon with my grandad in the 70's.
But this leaves a very bad taste, I would quite happily join together with other like minded people to withdraw our finance via betting.
We have more influence than we realise, because without betting funds, the sport is in trouble.
Tomorrow, I will watch racing, but in protest I will not be betting. This was not the only example of this sort of behaviour, it's just that GE was stupid enough caught on camera.
The sentence passed today was a joke.
Report olddesperado March 6, 2021 7:57 AM GMT

Denise Foster is rumoured to be taking over.
--------------------------

DENISE ‘Sneezy’ Foster is expected to step in as licensed trainer at Cullentra House Stables while Gordon Elliott is suspended.

A statement confirming her appointment is expected after the weekend but The Irish Field understands that Foster has been informing her owners of the news, and a British Horseracing Authority source also revealed that Foster had made enquiries about having runners at Cheltenham.

Based in Enfield, Co Meath, Foster is held in high regard by her professional colleagues. She trains approximately 20 horses and her most recent winner was Swiss Swoo at Dundalk last month. She saddled Lily’s Rainbow to win a listed race at Navan in 2016 and Not For Burning gave her a winner at the Fairyhouse Winter Festival.

A former riding instructor, she worked with show jumpers in Ireland and Belgium earlier in life. She was married to leading eventer David Foster, who competed in three Olympics before suffering a fatal accident while competing in 1998.

So  he hasn't been punished at all really. A 15,000 fine is his % for winning one race at Cheltenham (he wins around 6 a year. A 6  month ban ?! The horses still run and he just manages the training  by phone and email rather than being on the gallops - I don't see how anyone could suggest the ban is other than anything but extremely lenient.
There will still be a hundred plus horses in his stable , which he clearly will see oversee until he returns in 6 months..the season is over in 3 months anyway - pretty much got off scot free.

glentoby i'm not completely senile ;of course the BHA have no jurisdiction over the IHRB however they are in a position to exert considerable pressure by  threatening to refuse to accept entries from the Foster (Elliott) yard if they believe the ban to be merely window dressing.

Elliott let the cat out of the bag with his tweet yesterday ;presumably he got a phone call from the IHRB telling him to delete it post haste.   The man's obviously as thick as two short planks and the IHRB are going to have to keep him on a very short leash to avoid continual embarrassment.

If the judgement and punishment are acceptable to the stable lads/lasses, the owners at Cullentra stable that's all that matters. These are the people directly affected the most; outsiders may not agree, such is life.

Horseracing is only a minority sport. And, no body died!
Report duffy March 8, 2021 3:47 PM GMT
The BHA have well and truly naused this up, not for acting, but for thinking that the measures they took would be enough to alleviate the problem that they so wanted to avoid namely, the festival being open to heavy criticism, just as it was last year.

They thought that the horses would be moved to other yards, they didn't envisage a scenario where a number festival horses would remain and Elliott would still be to all intents and purposes the trainer.

So,the BHA have failed by not covering all bases and the festival will suffer as a consequence with tghe PR surrounding it highly negative.

The MSM will have a field day.
Report Wesdag March 8, 2021 4:00 PM GMT

Laying, no I don't think it is. GE is apparently a very rich, young man who will have many more opportunities. The lass who looked after him won't. She is who has been punished, not Elliott. All this rubbish about trainers loving their horses is as nothing compared to the grooms. The trainer may have 200 horses in his yard whereas the groom has only a couple. Work it out. I hope the owners of Envoi Allen make sure his ex groom is looked after but it will not be the same, not by a long way.
