What clearly made him was the fact that Willie Mullins and Gigginstown had an almighty fallingout over training fees.Well you got that right thelatarps, so the first thing is it was about MONEY..
'Well up yours Mullins, I am taking all your horses off you and giving them to Elliott. Now lets see who ends up Irish Trainers Champion.'
It was an odd choice as Giggy seemed to spread their horses around evenly with Meade, Morris and De Bromhead equal partners, at least.
Elliott almost pulled it off the first year (2017) but the fact that Mullins has barely been troubled by Elliott since tells me that Elliotts failure to knock WPM off his perch is a pretty big failing.

Put it this way if i was employed by O'Leary in this situation I should think that becoming champion trainer would be a pre requisite of the job description.
This failure and now this photo seems to me to point to a lack of savvy, a bit of street smarts, of racing industry intelligence if you want.
How in Gods name does been champion trainer become a MOL must! a stupid statement if ever there was one. MOL is only interested in results and money and how to spend less of it. Gordon gave him in spades what Willie couldn't , Gold Cups G.Nationals not one but several of each . Thats the reason O'Leary stayed loyal nothing to do with him been champion trainer .

It sounds to me that most on here must have gone to UNI by the remarks been made about Elliot , instead of praising  a guy who freely admits he has difficulty reading and writing and to reach such heights is amazing to say the least . He is an example of working class people making good without the help of the school tie, a remarkable achievement many should aspire to , it seems to me that jealousy is rearing its ugly head .

Workrider,

with all due respect, stop digging.

What has intelligence got to do with empathy?

As ever - You are defending one of the 'Home Team' to the hilt - and in Spades.

Put your shovel away.

Your Jingoism is  both irrational, and knows no bounds.

But seeing most top trainers have excellent ( private )  schooling /education   Gosden , Henderson , Johnston  to name just a few. People like Elliot might think what they have to offer is graft and fun. But be very  careful because the likes of Paul Nicholls won't ever feel the need to be in the comedy club I'm sure of that.

No excuse for that photo. I worked in racing for over 30 yrs and sadly have seen plenty of fatalities. Ive seen lots of sadness , tears and cradling of the poor Horses head have never seen anybody sit on one while having a photo like some big game hunter.  Absolutely no excuse.

For Goodness Sake -  workrider

You are more than PROVING MY POINT - about 'blind' Irish support for 'THEIR OWN' ....

Whatever the circumstances.   ....

-  including the defending of the horrendous regime of the Nuns over the unmarried girls giving Birth.

An overwhelming example - if ever their was one.  Cry

Nothing of the sort onlooker , its YOU that seems to have a blind spot , I defend the right of any man to his innocence unlike your good self it seems , I wouldn't care if he was Pakistani English etc so long as he's given the right to have the FULL facts placed before your firing squad , it seems the O'learys have spoke to him and they said that his horse husbandry is brilliant ,again unlike yourself they know the man many years and have had dealings with him maybe you have been in his stables and seen stuff that's not to your liking ,please let us know asap if you have, or are you just someone who dislikes the man for his birth place , you always seem to me to have your quill at the ready when something Irish that you don't like..Howard 100% right , how could it be otherwise...

FWIW i did go to uni but cr@pped out, owing to being too thick.

Sorry if my observations of GE give offence but that photo speaks of a man who seems to be surrounded by his mates and unable to separate himself where leadership is required.

And I am sorry, again.
If Michael O'Leary takes all his horses off Mullins and gives them to you, and doesnt give ANY to Meade (former champion), Mouse Morris (Gold Cup and Grand National Trainer) nor Bromhead (Mult G1 winner) then to my eyes He is pretty much saying to you..'Go and win the championship'.
Its sort of like when Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys sacked Jimmy Johnson as head coach and gave it to Barry Switzer, who hadnt been involved in coaching for about 5 years. The boss is saying, I am the reason for success. I can play god. I can make anyone the champion.
Given the behaviour of MOL in the public sphere, I dont think thats an unreasonable view of events...

Good point - thelatarps.

Michael O'Leary obviously had his ego damaged with the Willie situation - So, like all self-centred people, he wanted revenge.

What a load of tosh onlooker , O'Leary cares about money nothing else apart from his family and money I'd say the guy cares less about his ego than he does about your opinion of Elliot, Thelatarps, Henry and Noel still get horses from him, maybe that Uni education caused you to miss that...

This is a terrific thread , it didn’t take too long for work rider to show all on sundry what kind of a total fool he actually is . He singlehandedly closed down the Irish forum with his persistent posting of absolute shiite. He can be a nasty little runt too when needs be , but basically he is a complete and utter ginnit , and threads like this prove it . Sat down out of sadness and a face like he just won the euro millions. As for speaking to Elliott , guaranteed he has never spoken to him in his life , the guy used to be following Noel Meade around the tracks in Ireland at one stage as well . Noel thought he was the bird o Donnell

not the stable.
Or as said let the bet ride and if he runs and
wins give your returns to a good cause.

GE you are an absolute disgrace to the sport. I cannot for the life of me understand what you were thinking of.
No excuses can defend this atrocious act......imo you should be banned for at least 6 months.
Every death deserves respect......you appear to have shown none at all.
Perhaps you need bringing down a peg or two......anyway you and that cocky slimy rat MO deserve each other.
Workrider.....on this occasion you have misjudged the situation.

Paul everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect yours, the fact remains he SAT on a dead horse , he did not hit or kick it he simply SAT on it and no matter how distasteful that is ,and I agree fully it is terrible to see it, it was not a act of cruelty it was simple stupidity on his behalf .

Elliott so far as I can see has done nothing majorly wrong. Its a terrible optic but there was no actual animal abuse involved.

The horse died. it happens. There may have been a bit of black/gallows humour involved to lighten the mood amongst the staff or work rider involved.

All you have to do is look at the mans previous associates and look at how he treats other people, we all know he didn't kill the horse but it shows he didn't really give a toss that the horse had died, that much is clear...
He's a tramp and the optics are terrible, the authorities have a decision to make is the optics of this brining the sport into disrepute and deserving of a ban or not

Would be amazed if Chevelely Park didn't take the horses away after this, regardless of the outcome.

Who would want to associated with that photo and get behind him, the bloke is more or less finished
