Millington adds nothing to the conversation and it is still a mystery how he ever rose to be editor of the RP.
Why did Luck have Millington on the programme?Millington adds nothing to the conversation and it is still a mystery how he ever rose to be editor of the RP.
wd davy, we've all wished we could ignore over the years - his love of birchy, and vanilla approach to racing journalism etc etc
Millington adds nothing to the conversation and it is still a mystery how he ever rose to be editor of the RP. by under playing the shenanigans in his paymasters domain - al zarooni, woman mysteriously disappearing off the streets of cambridge, and so on, he made a very late play on bookies restrictions but it was a token gesture, the days of campaigning racing journalism are long gone

channing tends to waffle a bit although minor league compared to yates, but he has insight on racing/markets/betting that is way over what millington ever offered

Channing has very little racing knowledge imo, I'm sure he's very good on poker etc but i'ts a racing programme at the end of the day, anyone can go on and waffle about a few bets on Saturday's racing and that's about what you get with him when it comes to racing, always looks as though he's just been dragged through a hedge backwards too,but anyhow most of them are no doubt mates of Luck hence how they get the gig, good luck to them.

ribero1 - channing has a very good knowledge of racing as anyone who has seen his contribution to the cottage industry that is cheltenham preview nights will testify, his tendency to 'waffle' reminds me of highly intelligent guys I've worked with in the past, their brain goes two gears quicker than their mouth which is in fact preferable to the other way round

When Bruce Millington scribed, At cricket anyone should be adjudged LBW given OUT regardless of where the ball pitches... He should have been summarily dismissed.

can't stand millington, wrote some really nasty stuff about Peter Alliss when he was alive. One of the finest commentators golf has ever had or will have. Not trendy enough for millington.

As a licenced jockey, Davy punched a horse he was riding before the race. What was the racing press supposed to say?
I note that the likes of Jennings or Forristal who are too close to the Irish gravy train weren't exactly calling him out at the time. I'm not a huge fan of Millington either but I'm sure he wouldn't have lost any sleep over Davy still being in a huff.
The racing world are so insular it's untrue. They circle the wagons at every opportunity and take criticism poorly.
Quite happy for the peasants and outsiders generally, to provide to the industry through the levy though.

Exactly , jockeys think they are beyond reproach which is absolutely sickening . Any criticism and they are up in arms , it’s the old chestnut , how many winners have you ridden stuff is usually brought into play .

Nick Luck should have terminated the interview politely there and then. Imagine inviting a guy to sit in the studio alongside you and then allow him to be humiliated in that manner. Bad form by the normally immaculate Nick Luck.

Surely they knew who else was on the show before it started and could have warded this situation off.
Millington should have come back with " Are you still mad about me calling you out for punching a horse" bringing it back up

Anybody remember Russell beating a Rival Horse across the head with his whip? How he got away with that i dont know.I think he is a brilliant Jockey but bad tempered at times.

This is the problem. Jockey gets criticised, jockey refuses to talk the the press. Therefore the press refuse to criticise jockeys. McCoy did it Lydia Hislop. She criticised him and instead of stepping forward and explaining himself the toys came out of the pram.

Russell went on that show knowing Millington was going to be on it. He then set out to embarrass and humiliate him. I am not a fan of Millington but to his credit, he didn't lower himself.
The episode typifies the sort of character Russell is, I have seen this behaviour from him on many occassions.
