I had noticed there seems to be no show prices any more with bookies, but hadn't realised they didn't honour the SP.

From their T & C - Point 5 seems to be the key one. Wonder when this was added?
SP or Starting Price 1. The SP, or starting price, is the price declared on each horse once a race has come under starter’s orders. This is the price declared for each horse in the official race result. 2. Bets placed on UK and Irish horse racing will be settled at SP unless a price is taken or unless the bet is placed at Totepool odds. 3. If the selected horse is withdrawn from the race before coming under starter’s orders, bets placed on that horse at SP will be void. 4. If the selected horse is withdrawn from a race after coming under starter’s orders, bets placed on that horse at SP will have lost as the horse will be deemed to have been a participant in the race. 5. If a William Hill SP is returned it will take precedence over any other declared SP and will be used to settle bets where no William Hill price is given. If no SP is returned and no William Hill price has been taken, settlement of bets will be based on the final show of betting transmitted by our service provider. Where no betting shows are transmitted by our service provider, bets will be settled at Totepool odds. |

I have zero respect for WH ;they are a bunch of shysters who are an embarrassment to bookmaking. There can only be ONE starting price and if WH are ripping punters off then it should be pointed out to the tabloids.

Their own show prices consistently under the ISP show, but at least you would get rounded up when the final SP was announced. Now you lose every which way.

First race at Wolverhamoton last show the same as SP
HOWEVER Of the 6 races to date at Southwell, 10 Hills SP's lower than official SP and only 1 (Drakefell) better!! Looks like robbery without violence to me |

This is the most important thread on here.
I had no idea this was going on and I suspect 99.99% of punters will also have been in the dark. You can't have two SP's. The SP is supposed to be a fair representation of the market. From the above William Hill are just manipulating the market to suit themselves. What if they all did the same? The practice needs to be called out and stopped immediately. |

Surely the way to do it whilst there aren't course bookmakers is for each of the big 4/5/6 to submit prices for every horse to a central computer at the off allowing for a maximum over round of say 115%. The average price is then the SP.

I think they might have shortened up a few Ronnie, when it suits.
Looks grim for the whole industry, the shortfall in money will never be replaced. As for the shops, they can't survive with the present costs each shop have to pay. |
