The bet was 'invented' by Betfred and included a minimum double the odds one winner bonus.
Those bookies not offering such a concession should not be allowed to call it a Lucky 15. There's nothing lucky about a doing a Yankee (which means you need to be at least 50% correct to even get a return) with 4 singles at almost certainly lower odds then would be available on Betfair.

I don't see how that can be so - apologies.  Betfred has only been in existence since the early 2000s, and I recall filling in Lucky 15 / 31 etc paper coupons (the self-carboning kind) in Corals shops in the 90s when I was working in the City and Docklands.

Betfred opened his first shop in 1967. He became known as the bonus king in 1980. It's all on his site.

Fred Done may have opened his first shop then (more than happy to take your word for it), I think he traded as Done Racing or the like?  Allegedly bought his first shop from a winning bet on the 66 World Cup?

Betfred didn't exist until some time in the early 2000s, happy to be told I am wrong, but no recollection of seeing that name in the 90s or before.

longbridge, I wouldn't know what name he traded under in the early days, he only made it down my way when he bought out the Tote.

Whoever or whenever it was invented I was just highlighting that for me a Lucky 15 is not a Lucky 15 if it doesn't offer the bonus.

I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did with treble the odds. You'd do well to pick 4 x 9/2ish selections regularly and not show a profit in the long term.

If you back 4 9/2 shots when their true odds are 5/1 you make £11.50 profit on a £1 lucky 15.

That should be £10 lucky 15

JML, is that the true statistical odds? I remember someone posted this years back. As you say though it's essential that the 9/2 is a max. true 5-1 and is not a 10s shot on here.

the shops were called fred done throughout the 80s he was in competition with selwyn demmy in the greater manchester area ,until selwyn sold to ladbrookes,hard to believe now but they were a great firm to deal with as a punter.

I found that prices around 5/2, 3/1 and 7/2 were the best to maximise profits as long as betfair prices at the time were not much bigger.

If Betfred made it double the odds but no BOG it would still be very profitable for them.

But as the competition on the high street disappears so will the number of special offers.

I've been doing L15's for years. It's not only about maximising profits but also minimising losses. Double odds for one winner, BOG and 15% bonus for four winners pretty much ensure I don't lose in the long run as I normally get at least one winner and often two, sometimes three. Most of my biggest payouts have been four up in a L15.

I stopped doing Betfred L15 online as their prices were rubbish and no BOG. Wish I had known about the shops BOG. Having said that I think Bet365's excellent prices coupled with BOG more than make up for Triple odds one winner.

More and more bookies are conning punters by removing all the bonuses but still calling them L15's (especially if a football bet is included). It is dishonest marketing.

actual odds 3.5 and true odds of 3.8 was break even at treble odds as was 4(4.4) and 4.5(5.02)

At double the odds the figures are  3.5 (3.67) 4 (4.2) and 4.5 (4.77)

It can be profitable if the prices are still BOG but I doubt if I'll ever bother again.

And for the casual punter it's still the best deal they'll find on the highstreet.

Had a run in with M*tchbook customer service about the term'lucky 15'and no single winner bonus. Some (young?) cs assistant told me there was no connection between a 'lucky'tag and paying a bonus for only one winner!
He had no knowledge of the history of the be which as another poster says was created by the then Done Brothers in the mid 80's.

Tricasts started in 1982 and i'd never heard of Lucky 15s at that time.

If it was started by Done Bros it would have been at the time when all or nearly all their shops
were in the greater Manchester area.

I latched onto L15's in the late 80's, Back in those days, Coral's I think, offered triple odds for one winner. There was no BOG and it was difficult to get decent prices as many races weren't even priced up. I mostly did them with ante post bets and festival bets. They became much more viable when BOG was introduced. Bookmakers have been diluting the L15 concessions for a while probably because it is clear to them, they weren't making much profit from them.

JML I don;t fully understand the break points you mention, if you have time  can you expand the explanation?

only mentioned selwyn demmy yesterday on this thread sad to say he died this morning.

Storm Alert     Take 4(4.4) for example.

You backed each selection at 4(3/1) you would need 2273 winners every 10000 selections to break even. (10000/4.4 =2273)

Its sad to see the accountants who run these firms committing Business suicide

Just had a post Cham Lucky 15 with PP. 3pew max, still put it on.

They must be quaking in their boots in case I try & double up on the Sportsbook....

Will only be a matter of time before they stop taking Multiples altogether, it'll go with not taking singles.
Then what will happen.?

traditional bookmakers only allow you to lose...if you get on you're a loser.

I don't know if it's the same one (though it's quite a distinctive name, so seems unlikely there'd be more than one) but a Selwyn Demmy sadly passed away in Manchester today.

That was his dad use to take bets at the top of Warwick road,now sir Matt busby way they were very different bookmakers I didn’t know gus but knew of him.
