Nickys unibet blog for tomorrow
Altior (Nico de Boinville) Lots of you saw him at Newbury the other day where he worked with Epatante and that will have really sharpened him up nicely. As you all know, this race has been the plan from the very beginning and everything has gone without hiccup in the lead up to it. He schooled last week and again on Thursday morning and was his usual brilliant self so I am extremely happy with him coming into this. It does looks a decent renewal but we have already beaten Politologue plenty of times and he’s managed to do it in soft ground too, albeit quite a while ago, and Altior is now a year older so obviously has the potential to be vulnerable to an improving horse, but I’m not sure there’s really anything like that lurking in the field and I see no reason why we should worry. |

We get that Alice Plunkett getting all excited at the start of a NH season saying `oh we get to see all our old favorites year after year`
No we don`t ! the good ones hardly run at all, so Henderson has chickened out with his best horse, soft ground yeh right its soft most of the season as its winter. I was shocked to see Native River listed as running tomorrow another wrapped up in cotton wool. Come on trainers give us a show, there racehorses bred to run. We need another Martin Pipe to come and shake up the establishment or Gordon Elliot to move over. |
By:
no, laying, its not normal, if youve laid it before ,10am yesterday (i think it is,) then you should be paid out as a winner

Doesn’t the race have to be run to collect on antepost bets ? If Sandown was abandoned and Tingle Creek never run Altior punters get their money back ?
By:
It`s remarkable that the same elderly, male gamblers who know more about medicine than the collective medical minds across the world also seem to know more about training horses than N. Henderson Esq.
By:
correct hibore if the race does not take place money back for all non runners, although if its run at cheltenham next week as it has been in the past the firms have different rules.

Ground on the chase course is hardly soft anyway - moderate 2m handicappers yesterday ran 15 seconds over standard and it hasn't rained since that race.
By:
from the times yesterday the ground is much better on the chase course, hopefully all is well with the horse

Sickener. I never bet ante-post, but I did this time for the first time in a long time, and this is the reason why. Horses are for racing. I would understand if the going was heavy, or the horse had an injury, and I would understand if Cheltenham was next month but this is totally ridiculous. And, of course, the RAing Post will fawn all over Henderson to keep in his good books.

We both missed what @Hibore & @jimnast spotted, that (assuming the bet was antepost) we need to see if the race is actually run.

Classic chemical Nicky put away. He has doen it so many times now as as soon as I saw his glowing report I had my doubts and laid Altior. Sandown is known for getting very soft when it rains heavily so Altior was always likkely to encounter it. I did absolutely tip down bucket loads on Thu.

trainers spend 12 months a year once you have a horse at fever pitch for a race it does them no good leaving them in the yard,
hendo obviously doesnt give a fook about vegas blue because everyman and his dog new he,d hate that ground yesterday, hendo ran literally never went a yard |
By:
Thanks for the answers. Yeah of course, I need to wait for the race to be run. Silly me.
By:
It will be run the chase ground is soft with one bit around the turn towards the pond fence where it looked a bit heavy. The hurdles course was heavy and looked much softer than the chase course and as 1st time poster mentioned maybe an over reaction after the disappointing Blue Vegas run. The difference is Altior has run and won many times on soft including beating Politologue on it twice at Sandown.

One thing is absolutely on the cards - Chemical will run Altior later this season on softer ground than he'd face today, and come up with a sob story about how he simply had to get a run into him before Cheltenham.
