If the difference is only 1ms it's possible your system is not set up correctly. Have you tried switching ports ?
Wi-fi also suffers from interference and data flow has to be encrypted for security.

I use 2 computers when on the exchanges. One on Ethernet, the other on Wifi. It seems sensible to have my main betting computer on Ethernet but I've never actually noticed a difference.

It depends on what hardware/system you have of course
With Ethernet you can in theory get 10 Gb/s if you have a Cat 6 or Cat 7 cable and that's even with several miles of fibre optic cable. With wi-fi the most (and unlikely) is around 850 Mb/s, not even close. If you have a 100 Mb/s line you will not actually attain that figure anyway.

if wireless is decent and stable it works as well as ethernet on bf,,refresh ms is no different..bearing in mind you are only uploading small amounts of data.

^^^ This. The latency in ms is not going to make any difference for browsing web pages as long as you have decent WiFi; there are pro and cons for 2.4Mhz (coverage) vs 5Mhz (bandwidth/connections). You can test here: https://www.speedtest.net/
If you are streaming video then broadband speed is likely to be the slowest link. Also if you are using SkQ and Sky broadband then ethernet on any connection is not optimal with the way the WiFI mesh works.

Actually I need to clarify that last statement. Ethernet between a router and the SkyQ box is beneficial see here: https://www.increasebroadbandspeed.co.uk/how-to-disable-wifi-with-sky-q-and-use-ethernet
