One Christmas I was having a very lean time ( Charles Dickens type lean ). On the days leading up to Christmas the Sporting Life had articles on all the top trainers at the time, ending with their best hope of a winner on Boxing Day. I carefully noted all these good things and on the day I placed them in a Union Jack, not having enough to cover them in doubles and trebles. I think I had 1 winner at 1/3. One good thing that came out of it is that I've never taken the slightest notice of trainers columns or articles since and wouldn't believe any one of them if they quoted from the Bible.

Great bet, easy to work out ennit ? Only need three winners in one row 3\9 ennit ? 3\1 chance of getting it up Not a bad bet when you think about it !

Irishone I suggest you are the one who needs to do the mafs... After 20 years of settling in shops until 2003, I can confirm that the Union Jack is a complete mugs bet.

Not only have to got to pick winners but you have to put them in the right boxes unless you pick 9 winners and even then you going to be miffed because you only get trebles

Law of averages says youre not usually going to get 5 winners from 9 anyway, Penzance. Unless youre going odds-on selections which defeats the object
Do a placepot and you can crash first leg!

Agree Goddess if youre getting six winners daily Union Jack no use
The other way to play for basically an all-dayer other than Union Jack, do Placepot and if first two legs dont go in, try a Quadpot
Leif, 56 bets is a huge number. Wouldnt entertain it, cost a fortune for anything worthwhile. Rather get the 3 winners and just hope they line up

As a general rule - if "they" print a special pretty slip for it - it's a mug bet.
Possibly the only exception is a Luck 15 (if triple odds for one winner). hth.

Try a Liverpool Round The Clock or Alphabet. Mind you the last time i went into a betting shop i couldn't find the slips. You'd think the bookies would promote these far more to aspiring youngsters coming into the game.

Saxon Farm, for me you bring up a very good and salient point about gambling. I knew phuck all about gambling up to the age of thirtyish, even though I'd been betting since I was twelve, when I went behind the counter of my mate's independent to help him out for a fortnight - just taking slips, helping out as asked etc: What an eye-opener. It certainly showed me so much about punting, and more importantly, bookmaking, odds, etc; etc; than I had ever considered let alone known. My point is this. Every youth who gambles should, at the age of eighteen, be made to do the same. Work in a bookies for a fortnight. It would probably stop a high percentage of them ever becoming problem gamblers. It certainly did me.

Alternatively you can try an up and down acca, if cash, stop at a winner or Round Robin but that's only 3 selections
Gus Demmy used to have some interesting bets!

You all take it far too seriously. Gambling should just be a bit of fun
Besides, those of you who say money down the drain (peanuts), what about the millions who do Lotto?
Keep taking the tablets Penzance

Furthermore, the law of averages says, if you back odds against (after any stoppages, deductions and bookies profit margins) youre going to lose more times than not anyway
