She is very articulate and very knowledgeable, particularly on breeding side. You don`t need to bet to enjoy racing.

The biggest issue for me with the show is that clown Oli Bell.  What a brown-noser he is.  He anybody see/look down to the table at his right knee when he was braodcasting from home?  There where two photographs in gilt framer.  One of the Queen - fair enough if you're that way inclined.  The other was of,.................BROUGH SCOTT!

Fart too much emphasis on presenters and pundits, also too many of them. Not really a dedicated racing program just a dumbed down version of one.

I have tried watching it, but even with the mute button on I can only stomach it for less than 5 minutes.

Report Tom Salt August 2, 2020 12:39 PM BST
For what it's worth, I think ITV have done a very good job with their coverage of racing for the masses (much better than C4). We used to have to put up with idiots like 'Thommo' on channel 4 - The ITV coverage succeeds well in balancing horse racing for the muppets as well as the true enthusiasts. Miss Cumani is good eye candy - always immaculately turned out and is clearly quite knowledgeable, Matt Chapman provides a good 'devils advocate' and at least has an opinion - Oli Bell is the weakest link. Hayley Turner is excellent when she appears plus I would like to marry her.
Report MJK August 2, 2020 12:44 PM BST
Jason 'if you like' Weaver. Whenever he knows he can't possibly defend a ride(after going through the thousand reasons in his head)he'll say something like 'let's concentrate on the winning ride'. Fair play to Francesca for getting into him and Turner over the Oisin Murphy ride and standing her ground against two x jockeys who are lying their way through shows.
Report BARROWBOY August 2, 2020 1:50 PM BST
Problem is for most of these presenters if they’re critical of a jockey they’re likely to get frozen out.ryan Moore struggles to be civil even at the best of times,& remember McCoy’s reaction when a hack had the temerity to criticise him,he threw his toys right out of the pram.
Report impossible123 August 2, 2020 2:27 PM BST
I'd like to see Francesca and Bell as ITV racing presenters as Chamberlin is too lightweight and ignorant of the sport to be presenting. I think her ability is being compromised and restrained in her present role. I also believe Turner and Weaver would make an excellent supporting team; the rest is less important.
Report Storm Alert August 2, 2020 2:43 PM BST

Agree with you. Chamberlin is too fawning for me, does at least promote the others and give them a chance. Weaver does know how to top, compare him to the Racing TV pundits who can't tip rubbish.

What exactly has Walsh shaken up?

How many times has he criticised the people who run racing in Ireland - O'Brien(s), Mullins, Elliott....I suspect it is a round figure.

It would take very, very little for him to sound more critical than the rest.
Report brigust1 August 3, 2020 11:18 AM BST
I think the setup is pretty good as it is. I am not watching for information. If they know anything everyone does. And I do not follow anyone's tips. So, all I am doing is watching a group discussing horseracing in its various guises. I like that. It is like a hype competition of the superlatives, mine is better than yours. Has nothing whatsoever to do with the facts. We definitely need some damned good historians to counter the hype.

As far as Ruby is concerned and Irish racing I have noticed that when a good horse wins in Ireland the commentators are fairly sanguine about it, and they have some damned good horses. When a good horse wins over here he or she is the best there is in the world, in the universe, bar none. And the commentators have a string of superlatives all ready to churn out. It is often just laughable.

I have heard him be post race critical of rides, something his fellow retired peers are terrified to do.As he said on Irish TV that he was very friendly with all his ex  weigh room colleagues until he started doing this (pundit) job.

When everyone else was metaphorically slapping Joseph and JP on the back after their horse won its second race the other night Ruby had no problem asking what excuse they had this time as the original one was the longer trip and now it was back down in trip. His tone also said what most were thinking.

I generally record it and watch it later. BF gives us every race anyway so no reason to get sidetracked listening to the blethers.  You just have to read the forum to find out what to look out for.  The crack Jason has with the girls ( when both are on ) is entertaining and I can take Matt Chapman and Hayley but in general the canned music, the mush - mainly from that twit Bell - about racing being this and being that is a borefest.  I saw Ruby;s interview in Ireland post-big-hurdle race too, and I agree with the author, (workrider?), he was absolutely brilliant in his on-the-spot, immediate post-race analysis.  Bring him in as often as possible - flat or jumps.

I like Walsh as a pundit too. His analysis of Mogul winning the Juvenile Stakes Derby Trial in Ireland was accurate eg Mogul despite odds of 1/2 did not win going away from the others. He's always willing and ready to criticise his former colleagues rides regardless in contrast to McCoy who's pants.

"I for one am a massive fan of itv racing and will not hear a bad word said about it or any of its presenters. I think they do a fabulous job".

Does it include a lead presenter who's evidently so horse racing knowledge inadequate and repeatedly fawning? Do you honestly believe a more knowledgeable presenter cannot be found given the number of horse racing channels and presenters in that field? Chapman was sacked just after one "appearance" at Dancing On Ice (I believe that was the programme), and rightly so.

Chamberlin is horse racing poor and does not belong there, I'm sorry to add.

Concur. I do not subscribe to racing channels either only pictures from bookies videos, if betting. Otherwise, little or no interest unless it's a big info race eg Derby Trials. But, Chamberlin is so clueless about horse racing and fawning. Each time he opens his mouth my interest is deflected.

Chamberlin is a nice guy...horse racing lead presenter he's clearly is not; the chastising by Cumani and Scott about AOB/Coolmore would be embarrassing to any in the team let alone the lead presenter of the programme. Imagine a non-journalist presenting the News on BBC? It will be laughed at by their counterparts.

Ed was being quite genuine and, in a way, correct in sayimg something like  ...

'At this moment in time we should be grateful to Aidan O'Brien for bringing all these horses across to race here ... in the current circumstances, having to hire a house' (for the travelling staff, presumably - as no overnight stays in racecourse stables allowed, etc)

Brough Scott bounced back .... "They are not a charitable organisation"

- and - Francessa added something like - 'It is a business' ... hinting towards the breeding side of the operation.

They both, of course, made very relevant comment - But I also felt that Ed's considerations were, perhaps,  a little hard done by, too.

In the main the crowds are sun and mail readers, sensationalism filling their voids.

Useful for an immediate replay of the last 1/2f.

Frankly, even the pro's on the racing channel take some believing. Last week for the Golden Mile H'Cap the paddock commentator gave his review of Montatham before Lydia blithely said " Isn't Montatham a non-runner?". How the fack can a professional working on course not know that the jt-fav had been taken out!

Francesca Cumani is clearly the most beautiful woman on TV with a great personality..what more do you want? Obviously she can't read the form book but if you need someone to tell you what to back then you shouldn't really be betting.

She's basically the Paddock judge but she only seems to like the one's with a bit of size. Definitely likes a big boy. Can imagine her pulling your pants down in the bedroom for the first time and giving you the analysis of what she sees. Bad luck if you ain't packing a big oneHappy
