A very difficult horse to play as his return (success) rate is not good. He's no Enable or Stradivarius; 1/3 is buying money (literally). The question is will the true Battaash show up today?
Report howard July 31, 2020 11:59 AM BST
He usually shows up at Goodwood. But I'm not a backer of anything at that price even the fastest we've seen in 30 years.
Report koikeeper July 31, 2020 12:02 PM BST
Would wait and see what happens with it going down/at the start.
Has a tendency to get upset, sweat etc.
Report racingfish July 31, 2020 12:45 PM BST
I agree I hate backing Odds on and sitting there stressing, much prefer to lay at less cost, but  what in this field looks  like a threat ?
I can't see anything.

I take the above back, Liberty beach  is a threat
Report glentoby July 31, 2020 12:48 PM BST
The one most likely if he boils over racingfish, yet to see the best of her imo.
Report Andrew.in.Sweden July 31, 2020 1:10 PM BST
Not a particularly strong field and Battaash is 11 lb and upwards clear on BHA ratings (almost the same with RPR).

He's 3/3 on the course and a minimal crowd to upset him as as happened before on occasion.

A lot of pace in the fields and Ornate will take them along at a good gallop from the inside stall, but the class of Battaaash should prevail even though he's giving 12 lb and 8 lb respectively to his 2 main rivals, both of whom act on the course.

Not a certainty by any means and he only won this race last year by 0.75L at odds of 1/4, but irrespective of this i backed him at 1.33 earlier.
Report impossible123 July 31, 2020 2:18 PM BST
He's shown up here each time he's run. Will do so again most likely.
Report glentoby July 31, 2020 3:03 PM BST
Having debated until now have decided that Liberty Beach ew the value rather than laying Battash, not much of a price just 2 places but hit the crossbar yesterday with a filly I thought had yet to show her best. This one does not have a great deal to find regardless of the official ratings and if the fav gets overheated she could pounce.GL
Report themightymac July 31, 2020 3:16 PM BST
It would be a major shock if Battaash doesn`t beat this lot.

Glass Slippers at Evs+ three places on here looks a sporting bet. Ran well from a bad draw at Royal Ascot, just a bit more than 5 lengths behind Battaash and gets another 5lbs from the fav today.

Be good for racing for Battaash to win well.

A record time. What's his next race? His handler was feeling the ground. A stone bruise perhaps.

Well done to Mr Murphy as well.
Report themightymac July 31, 2020 3:24 PM BST
That was a great performance. I should have done the F/C but I`m happy with a place Glass Slippers. Track record smashed WOW!
Report blackbarn July 31, 2020 3:24 PM BST
Assuming my arithmetic is correct (doubtful), he has broken the track record by about 4 lengths

2nd & 3rd can’t have been far off the old track record either.

mate got 5/2 to win by 1 length or more and break course record with PP
doesnt sound like good odds to me, but he picks up
Report acey deucy July 31, 2020 3:31 PM BST
I love Battaaash but that race was a complete non event...Fair enough he beat the course record but that will probably be done again Tomorrow if conditions are the same.

Acey - whatever does it take to get you into excited/positive mode?Wink.  The jocks were saying there is still some juice in the ground and the times in the first four races are all outside standard.
Report acey deucy July 31, 2020 3:38 PM BST
Like I said I love the Horse but that is what you would expect from a 1-4 shot.
Report blackbarn July 31, 2020 3:42 PM BST
Acey -This is not a serious question but who was the last odds on shot to break a 5f track record by 4 lengths
Report acey deucy July 31, 2020 3:50 PM BST
I never buy course records blackbarn I have seen to many ordinary Horses that have beaten them in my 40+ Years of watching Racing.
Report blackbarn July 31, 2020 4:14 PM BST
Acey - Only 40+ Cool You have a point mind, although most of those unusual track records are confined to the smaller courses and extreme weather condition - I go back to the days of Brighton, Bath and even Lewes when HARD used to regularly appear in the going report.
Report themightymac July 31, 2020 4:32 PM BST
The ordinary horses that have done it have done it with over a stone less in the saddle.
Report glentoby July 31, 2020 6:32 PM BST
Kameko broke the record for the guineas which although not quite the track record is more of an achievement than a downhill 5F sprint imvho, given the likes of Frankels trailblazing win being much slower on similar ground.Cannot take anything away from Battash but a bit of perspective never goes amiss. Also seems like the nay sayers forgot that little nugget when dismissing Kameko at Goodwood where he was never off the bridle?
Report roadrunner46 July 31, 2020 8:03 PM BST
good to see group 1 winner and multiple group 1 conqueror glass slippers finish second for the f/c, although  with battaash still in the form of his life and looking invincible, the former will have to up her game to get a group 1 this season.
Report blackbarn July 31, 2020 10:12 PM BST
Glentoby - I take your points, but the Goodwood 5f sprint is and has been downhill for everyone for ever and ever, hasn't itLaugh  Re Frankels guineas versus Kameko's - I be interested to see the comparative times on the day to be sure we are really dealing with "similar" ground.
