More offshore trade on British Racing makes it clear we are global.

Our NHS is funding American and Chinese pharmaceuticals and now  British racing is funding offshore accounts, what a mess.

According to what I hear Metro the only reason to open a betting shop would be to allow FOBT players somewhere to go even with the reduced stakes, only the very lowest economically challenged individuals e.g no online access would even enter. In short the most vulnerable in society, does that sound like a good idea or the way forward? Imo close every single betting shop and a social blight is at least partly addressed and at least a few sad souls saved from themselves?

From what I am hearing glentoby, the high st may have lost 33% of shops and that will grow.

They have invested too much in tech and now regret it.
By:

When: 30 May 20 18:51
positivism it is not for the high st judging by their lack of will power to even try because they were sold the tech bubble and that will blow unless they are gonna put money in the poor man's pockets and that will never happen under this concept.

I can see many of my brothers enjoying turning it all off(non-racing folk) The money you can spend on beans instead.

there is a generation of 60 somethings who still love their visit to a betting shop with no interest in betting online. GT miles wrong again IMHO

Winkyes the dealer.
By:

When: 30 May 20 19:13
Is that right then the dealer? Why were the shops being closed had over fist before the reduction in stakes for FOBTs and well before this pandemic?A betting shop cannot survive if the slippage is reliant on over 60s,economic fact.So please explain where I am "wrong again" and indeed before? Always willing to learn as you know.

The shops are being closed because of the bubble that tech was supposed to offer, It has done the opposite. Killed the original model which was adequate and they gone for the tax dodge online and got it completeley wrong. Say it like it is.

shops that have been closed over the last year are all shops opened for fobts and shops who no longer make money. there is still a big retail market out there. covid is going to make it harder but suggesting they don't make money and all should close is just 100% wrong

And more to the point how can the high st, in general, have any business plan, when the rulers are distributing the wealth QE to those corporations with? and those business operations have continued during this crisis.

there is also a large % coming back from the internet because it is too easy to lose money betting on a card. they can bet on betting terminals offering all internet markets with the ability to cash out from their phone in their home on shop bets.

every shop that doesn't open is also less money for the funding of racing. so be careful what you wish for GT

When racing starts discussing the options to the failed model, then things could improve for local business. A sad fact that we are all guilty of promoting this exchange, the truth is that we are in fact, working against localised racing (new buzz word -  localised) why is that? when they want you all online? Back to the jungle folks!

Metro, the bookies in the High Street have not invested in Technology for shops, their only overheads are Media Rights,Rent and wages.FACT so closure will only affect a minute amount of profit on turnover as has always been the case since FOBTs were introduced with large stakes, most of the shops could not turn a profit on slippage alone FACT,they were mini casinos and no betting shops. As to the dealer,do you think that over 60s are not computer savvy or are they just thick? You are talking about the very people who built the framework for what you are using now FFS?My point is that nobody other than the severely disadvantaged have any need of a "High Street Bookie" and removing their retail outlet is akin to removing the local dealer for crack users? Or would you prefer them to "preserve jobs" at the expense of the mugs and most vulnerable just to keep their names in lights?

My advice is to stop smoking, taking drugs, turn off ya internet forget ya TV licence, no brain can put up with the fear and evil we see on our TV screens every day from childhood no one deserves that. downgrade ya phones a fiver can do ya calls and texts, and then you will have saved a considerable sum of money, which you can tease them.Wink

most over 50s never mind 60s or 70s or even 80s struggle with "modern technology" glen and can just about manage to get about but are well out of their comfort zone - the reason these new machines hav been introduced into shops -and i dont mean the fbots- is to try and get the youngins in to hav a bet - i dont frequent betting shops very often these days but i wud much rather play a space invaders machine than navigate one of those betting terminals - then you hav customer loyalty whereby some of these old guys hav been at it for 40-50-60 yrs going to the betting shop and they aint gona change now at their age  and most of them hav massive pensions to sp unk away till their dying days so whilst they are about/around the shops will survive for a gud few yrs yet imo
