Ryan Moore given a 2 day ban for the ride. Hitting the horse when clear.
By:
All that is wrong in racing (non-triers galore etc.) and the stupid stewards are punishing a jockey for such a trivial 'offence'.
Only in Britain! |
By:
I agree roggrain. A tad harsh to say the least.
By:
That ban is just plain stupid, second time on course in front of a huge crowd and he punched it out to help its education for the future.
By:
I counted x5 hits with the whip by Ryan Moore whereas Joe Fanning hit his horse x11 times that I counted to get up and beat Frankie. Was he stood down?
By:
Feltfair - Different offences = different penalties. Fanning got four days!! There are various sites that give you the facts on these issues that will prevent you from looking ill-informed
. Stewards reports are available on here - https://www.britishhorseracing.com/racing/stewards-reports/#!?pagenum=1 The whip rules are most easily understood on here - http://www.thepja.co.uk/members-info/regulatory/useofwhip/ |

Smartarse is what I do - I work on the basis that most people want the facts. I hope my post was helpful to feltfair and perhaps others. I am sorry it was not helpful to you.

Whatever the rules are just did not look good esp from a senior top jock. Maybe the stewards could look at Moore's rides at Ascot in particular over the last couple of years. They might want to bear that in mind with Ascot in the horizon.
By:
Impossible123 - "Whatever the rules are just did not look good esp from a senior top jock". Yesterday you thought the rules should apply differently BECAUSE he is a "senior top jock". Why do you struggle so much to keep your race-reading objective?.
By:
forget all that, where is john92 with my jumper ?
By:
I cannot remember ever saying that. You might have come to that conclusion, but I cannot recall stating that; I think I said what Moore did did not look good on tv as it came from a top senior jockey when the horse he was riding was winning easily and running away from the field.
To be absolute frank the workings/rules of the track stewards and/or the BHA are of little interest to me, and only on very rare occasions these would affect any of my selection eg Bondi Beach in the Leger. If so, I'm always philosophical about the outcome - one way or another. Horse racing is only a game, after all. I've witnessed and experienced tougher environment of investing in the City, business, etc, so the shenanigans taking place in horse racing, the workings/behaviour of the stewards and BHA do not perturb me a jot. However, the jockeys do esp in the present climate where every race/move is recorded and visually available to most **** prepared to seek it thus I'm prepared to offer my opinions - rightly or wrongly - I'm no fence-sitter. Like it or not what Moore did was not pleasant as a viewer on tv (and I'm a horse racing fan/punter) - what message would that send to those non-horse racing fan/audience? A horse running away from the field and winning by a mile yet being applied the persuader, and from a top senior jockey too. It was wholly unnecessary. I've respect for jockeys like Lester, Starkey, Carson, Kinnane, Murtagh, Roberts, Cauthen, Eddery, Dettori and many more, but Moore is not one of them; he's been diabolical at Ascot. |
By:
Gosh. Methinks you protest too much. Anyway, here is what you said...........
"I think the combination of the winning distance and offence committed by a top senior jockey were behind the thinking of the local stewards banning him for two days - he can always appeal. At least then he'd need to speak (up)!" I'd forgotten that you couldn't resist having a dig at his reticence. |
By:
impossible 123 is a Ryan Moore serial stalker/bully. NO mention of Joe Fanning, he exclusively for many years has targeted Ryan Moore with his remorseless and relentless criticism.
By:
'blackbairn', thanks for digging that up.
I can assured you that was a tongue-in-cheek comment. To be honest watching it live I thought Moore was merely waving the whip, but was surprised he got two days. Only then I realised he got that for using it on the horse despite a wide margin victory; combined the two one could deduce - rightly or wrongly - his seniority and experienced could have played a part. And, I also think the 'Rule' applied in that manner needs tweaking if it was for an educational purpose. And, maybe the stewards had similar thought to yours truly to give him a 2-day holiday. Nevertheless, that was less painful to him than he punters at the receiving end of the number of injudicious rides he gave to some hotpots at Ascot over the last couple of years without a smidgeon of an enquiry - they were woeful, and replicated. Absolutely shocking! |
