the reason to do it is so you have competitive races otherwise it's a free for all. it wasnt brought in for betting to make it difficult or whatever, it's there so that we get races where the horses are all fairly close in ability

why slow up horses when all horses are inconsistent in the first place, handicapping is an inexact bodge,if it worked then all the horses in a handicap race would gallop past the post at the same time, this never happens so why bother in the first place.

Here is my views: You rarely get a group horse running in a handicap. Most midweek Handicaps work imo. Stoute uses the system to prefection.
These horses have quirks, problems, physically mentally. I dont see weight a problem in Handicaps.
For me Handicaps are a CLASS thing. Some horses can carry weight more than others. Also ground conditions draw and track, trainer form etc etc.
Just my thoughts.

Handicappers(who ever they are) try to fool us that they have interpreted a race in such a way that certain horses in that race need to be handicapped, now that is a cushy job if ever I saw one.All race analysis has to be subjective,if race interpreation was a wholly objective affair then with the help of a computer you should win every race and banish the bookies forever. But race analysis is subjective by it's very nature. So how can handicappers who after a totally subjective analysis of a race conclude that a vey objective weight has to be allocated to specific horses.Nobody wins at horse race betting in the long term(or short term).Handicappers just make the picture even more obscure.

Silverfish, can you please come out from under my skirting boards!
Nobody wins at horse race betting in the long term(or short term). Well that's just one of the most ridiculous statements i've ever read, compares to "The Bookies always win in the end", absolute codswallop and it's that negative mindset that stops you from becoming a winner, plenty of winners on here imo. I've been both a bookie and a punter, much prefer being a punter as i don't have to bet on every race.

The bookies always win in the end is not a statement of fact...it is a statement of philosophical and scientific certitude, alongside newtonian physics and the fact that the sun tend to rise in the morning and bears **** in the woods.:)
