Good god, it is awful. Some US race nobody gives a toss about being shown 3 minutes before the off. No shots of the horses going to the start. Then split screen with an advert while they are at the post under a minute before the off. And this is a showcase fixture for this terrible channel.

Report sparrow May 8, 2019 2:00 PM BST
The whole change has been bad for Racing viewers with these awful camera angles and endless split screens caused by far too much racing on the other channel.

chester wanted a channel "to showcase" them

delusional imo that (a) chester is actually something to showcase & (b) that ATR would be able to do that even if it was

Cheers wonders Wink I managed to miss this switch somehow. Blush

6 mins off the next (listed race no less) and it is off from Sha Tin to show some adverts that they show every single day several times. Great viewing.
Report stridingedge May 8, 2019 2:21 PM BST
It really is quite pathetic. Catering for the MUG punter who's not interested in anything but getting a bet on last minute on anything anywhere.
Report Barton Bank May 8, 2019 2:25 PM BST
Wow! They have squeezed another advert in a minute from the off after briefly showing the horses down at the start. This is a new low. They don't even have the excuse of having to cover a large number of meetings. Hideous scenes.
Report duffy May 8, 2019 2:26 PM BST
At least they've informed us that Chester is a front runners track.

They are shooting themselves in the foot. It was the same with Ascot.

Do they want to attract courses away from Racing TV? If they do this is surely not the way to do it.

Rather than showcasing the meetings they persist in showing Sha Tin. You couldn't make it up.
Report Brian May 8, 2019 2:56 PM BST
Found a forum subject, we can all agree. Absolutely dreadful. Do SKY RACING attempt to attract the most annoying adverts or is this the way to tell us what they think of their customers.
Report RothmanMike May 8, 2019 2:58 PM BST
They've managed to attract the most annoying presenters, so this is just more of the same philosophy.
Report differentdrum May 8, 2019 3:00 PM BST
The Redknapp and Dettori adverts on Racing TV are no better.
Report the dealer May 8, 2019 3:00 PM BST
might be wrong but i would imagine money is the major factor for courses moving to sky.
Report duncan idaho May 8, 2019 3:07 PM BST
just a chance their business model doesnt tie in with what viewers would like ideally (ie they need the money from ads and Hong Kong whether you like it or not)...just cos it's a new course for them aint going to change that...you have to remember, being able to see all racing live isn't a basic human right!
Report RothmanMike May 8, 2019 3:12 PM BST
They need the money generated by ads.
Simple.
Sack the presenters and do away with the ads.
Report the dealer May 8, 2019 3:17 PM BST

Report mouse muldoon May 8, 2019 3:19 PM BST

I like Tylicki as pundit, interviews and I quite enjoy differing camera angles. I think we have to put up with other meetings or contracts will not be renewed. Can't change every thing just because a major meeting is on.
Report loper May 8, 2019 4:19 PM BST
The worst thing about chester and ascot going to sky/atr is that you have to watch it on the tiny LV screen if you want to watch it live.

must be a fair chance that sha tin and happy valley have a massive audience outside the uk.

it is what it is, not a stand alone channel but part of a tv package. its still early days imo but will be purely down to finances which direction it goes.

Just the way racing is now . Racing UK is even worse most of the time .

Quantity
Report knot in wood May 8, 2019 4:49 PM BST
we will have to beg to differ then peeler, find tylicki pretty bland and just another former jockey and cannot stand the changing camera angles and close ups.

throw in the foreign muck and adverts and to be honest i would pack the game in if forced to watch this channel every day.

all about opinions, perhaps they are trying for a different type of viewer than me.
Report Barton Bank May 8, 2019 4:51 PM BST
I hate close up camera angles. That said, they aren't the only ones guility of it.
Report dr . atkins May 8, 2019 4:56 PM BST
the way i look at it sky racing comes with my sports package i don't see why you should pay more again to watch ruk always thought bookmakers should subsidise ruk because it benefits them
Report differentdrum May 8, 2019 5:22 PM BST
Tylicki just part of the conveyor belt of retired jocks. To me they all bang average at best.

If viewers are deserting Sky for ITV who is left watching? I can't see Racing picking up many casual viewers. Even poor adverts need some sort of audience.

What is the point of Sky throwing money at something if the output is so poor they are driving people away?

The only excuse they have is the fixture list and that obviously doesn't include the likes of Sha Tin.

Since the movement of Irish Racing the coverage on both channels is now considerably worse than what it was before the change. A case of be very careful what you wish for.
Report RothmanMike May 8, 2019 5:48 PM BST
No problem here.
Never watched ITV since Chapman /Fitzgerald era, don't watch ATR because of the Chapman /Fitzgerald era.
Happy with RUK and only bet on their races now.
Report duffy May 8, 2019 5:54 PM BST
Will we ever uncover an ex-jock that will stand there and criticise bad rides whilst the pundits stand there and squirm, unlike say football you'd never see it.

Totally agree especially with the last part. ATR you could cope with being worse as it was terrible already. But RTV has grown considerably worse since taking on the Irish coverage. Not so much in terms of the Irish coverage itself but the split screens. They also seemed to have taken the approach with the ‘studio team’ rather than roving reporters around each track which started before the new launch....
And don’t even get me started on The Friday Club.....The Betting Lab was a million times better.

Report jmdc May 8, 2019 10:28 PM BST
Before the transfer, Vance and RTV stated that there would be far more studio input to cope with the glut of meetings.  In the meantime, Imi and Sky Sports made it their policy to include as many presenters and pundits at the meetings they covered, especially the prestige ones, which they cover at the expense of everything else. Twice this afternoon, we were waiting for a betting show at Fontwell, only to be thwarted by a blonde bimbo ysttering away about the recent race at Chester.  Fontwell only hit the screens as the race started. Anyone who wants to bet on their product is clearly under an illusion - they are not welcome.  Of course, they no longer ask for emails and tweets, so that Imi can run his filthy channel unhindered from his palace in the Sky. He clearly is responsible for a deplorable outfit!

What do you mean 'forced' - matron won't give you the remote in the nursing home? Obviously you know that if you have a bet on here or the bookies then you can watch the race online and miss the crap....which brings me on to:

Errrrr that he could turn over the channel at the start of the race (without even leaving his chair) or have the channel on but turn the sound off and then he isn't limiting his bets to those on the tv channel that he pays for which in this day and age is a ridiculous reason for not betting, aint 'modern' tech great? Even though everything I've said is bleeding obvious I do hope that helps.

Nothing you have spouted makes any real sense at all. All that is happening here is that some forum members are complaining about the deteriorating quality of the channels they subscribe to. Having watched TV in the 1950s I fail to see what the current situation has to do with that experience but maybe you had a different experience in your 1950s viewing!
