Had a first yesterday. Queued up for ten minutes to place a bet. On arrival at counter, manager strode across to tell counterhands we are no longer taking bets. Not just on the next race. On anything. You cannot make it up. Cannot Fontwell give the franchise to a company who might like to accept bets during racing?

Remember it happening one day at Ayr, the local trainer Nigel Angus had one running at York called Level Par and it was the talk of the course with the"away"bookies pricing it up at 6/4 while it was 7/2 on Extel with the oncourse indepedant shop who by the time I got there had been filled in by the locals and were refusing any more bets even at SP.Ended up betting it on the Tote
