my view is that in her (albeit brief) time as a non-claiming rider she has underachieved relative to opportunity

She like every other jockey which is as good as the horses she rides.
On that last ride Copain De Classe, it met one particularly wrong and got in a right mess. So if it's all down to the jockey and she's so good, what was she doing? The winner here was a 7lbs claiming jockey - riding the best horse on the day. Racing is about horses not jockeys. |
By:
She cuts a very stylish compact racing figure. Good tactically. Imparts confidence when astride a horse. Possibly better in Chases as she presents her mount so beautifully at a fence. Off the horse, very down-to-earth, stylish and natural. Declined "media training". I've seen her on her way back to the weighing room put down a saddle and get on one knee to sign a succession of programmes for children.
By:
She's done well but the Irish girl Blackmore is in a different league.
By:
presents her mount so beautifully at a fence
What does that mean? She sits absolutely still as she comes to a fence like the rest of them do unless they're on the wrong stride. Then they're all in the **** and look bad. |
By:
Agree with Ribero Rachael different gear
By:
They don't arrive at a fence in perfect stride by accident.

used up far far too much early on
another day of losses for the fan club |
By:
It's racing not show jumping, the horse has to learn to meet them right a racing pace.
That's why some are brilliant jumpers in any class and others keep falling. You never answered the question. That last one I mentioned in the 3:15 Wincanton, ran down the fence before it hit it. If she's so good what happened there? |
By:
She was on the wrong horse today.
That's all there is to it. |
By:
Horse was tired.
By:
Like I said, it's all down to the horse
By:
to put it simply coming into the straight with a winning chance cant imagine anyone thinking their at an advantage because frosts riding it
By:
horse was tired due to too much petrol being used up too early (home straight 1st time)
that is jockey error |
By:
Agree with wonder. It’s all well and good bigging these jockeys up but at least admit when they’re wrong. Imo Rachael Blackmore is different class to Frost anyway.
By:
bit unfair to knock her riding that rat(copain) dr crippen but at least you post some decent views which is what interested me, hence why i thought i'd see others views... i wasn't interested in a fan club as certainly not my way or one jockey better than another nonsense, just a rational view of the girls talent in the saddle was what i meant
can't say i backed any of her mounts today as thought she wasn't riding anything with a decent chance at the right price, hence the post on a day when the ramping couldn't get in the way, it still has though...i don't agree blackmore is any better myself but she certainly gets a lot more opportunities and has rode over double the mounts frost has and benefited from other riders injuries and riding plenty of gigginstowns so i think it is wrong to compare the 2 riders, they have almost identical stats in the past year of riding |
By:
I wasn't trying to belittle Frost's riding in any way by asking why the horse made a mistake if she's as good as they say she is.
I was trying to make the point that it doesn't matter how good the jockey is, if the horse gets it wrong the jockey can't do much about it except sit tight and hope for the best. |
By:
To state that Rachael is in a different league, especially from "seasoned" forumites ,is just crazy.Bryony is a top rider, and getting better and better. She has already shown to be a great judge of pace ,by leading from the front in long distance chases,or giving her mount time to get into a rhythm.Sure Rachael is a very good pilot, and equal to the best at times, but that doesn't diminish Bryony's qualities.Accept that they are BOTH top pilots, and the best lady riders I can ever remember.
Paul Nicholls can't afford to take chances with his choice of riders,so accept that he quite rightly rates Bryony highly,as do the other trainers that have given her winners. |

By:
Just because I think Rachael is superior to Bryony does not mean to take anything away from Bryony who I still rate as a good jock and better than a lot of the men riders. To say a jockey makes no difference is ridiculous and one of the biggest considerations when assessing a horses chance.

A tempting back to lay Tanglefoot
By:
I tend to rate jocks solely by whether they will reduce a winning chance - the rest (who are not on this list) are equal IMO.
By:
TBF there are quite a few on the 'reduce' list.

Frost would be a neutral for me.

my graN WOULD HAVE WON ON THAT,and just in case things didn't go to plan wedge on the danger was a nice little back up, wedge and frost in a finish you,d be hard pushed to pick out the lady rider, imo
