Storyline Of East London, Vic Dakin dotes on his aged and largely bedridden mother. He is also the leader of a criminal gang whose proceeds are largely from the regular collection of "protection money" from their victims. Vic often uses brutal violence against enemies as well as "friends" to prove a point, the violence in and of itself which he seems to relish. While not a regular means to money, Vic decides that his gang will work on a tip to rob a factory payroll, which, somewhat against his wants, will entail working with fellow criminal Frank Fletcher, who understands such a job better than Vic or anyone on his team. Making the job more complex at this time are: the police being after Vic for the vicious attack on one of Vic's associates who acted as a police snitch; and Vic's association with Wolfie Lissner, who procures sexual services for a number of people, including some fairly high profile ones, and who often acts as Vic's "on demand" sexual partner.—Huggo

Starting tonight at 10.05pm "The Wheeltappers And Shunters Club" Episode 1 from 1974.
Produced by Granada Television, The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club originally aired on ITV from 1974 to 1977. Set in a fictional Northern working men’s club, the show recreated the atmosphere of the traditional British club scene of the 1970s.
Hosted by comedian Colin Crompton as the club’s chairman and usually compered by Bernard Manning, the series featured a unique format where the audience sat around tables, enjoying drinks and snacks, singing along, and participating much like they would in a real club. 48 episodes were broadcast over six series.
The show’s guest lineup included many well-known and rising stars, giving early TV exposure to acts like Cannon & Ball and Paul Daniels. A long list of artists such as Alvin Stardust, Lonnie Donegan, Kathy Kirby, The Krankies, Roy Orbison, and Gene Pitney, among others, also appeared.

Missed the first 15 minutes of it last night as I mistakenly thought it began at 10.15. There was a guy throwing knives at a girl narrowly missing. He then persuaded Bernard to join in. Then the knives were set on fire. All this as the audience were supping their ale and smoking like mad. Next was Freddie Garrity and finished with Tessie O'Shea. My favourite bit was when in the middle of all this the bingo started with the Chairman dropping all the balls, some landing in his pint, then carrying on drying them and calling the numbers. I used to frequent lots of working mens clubs around Doncaster mid sixties and this was fairly accurate. I know I'm easily amused.

Saw "Jackpot" an episode of Dixon of Dock Green last night with Kenneth Cope. Although George was well past it, it was quite a good episode and quite funny with the Cope character having the last laugh. Although I saw very little evidence that the criminals were guilty of the theft of 16 grand to be convicted of it
