it doesnt stridingpledge as when ive backed it ( to place ) & it came 3rd i lost the bet & thats happened many times. On phoning them ive never & still dont understoon when its 3 places or 2 places. Yesterday in the 1st race at newcastle it became a 7 horse race ( & was shown as such on the racing post ) & i layed a horse, it came 3rd & i lost my bet. When ive done just the opposite & backed it ( in exactly the same circumstances ) & it came 3rd i always again lose my bet. It seems if i back or lay if it comes 3rd my bet always loses.

The 1st race at newcastle yesterday was a 8 horse race with 1 withdrawn so is now a 7 horse race. The raceing post had it down to 7 runners so it should be to 2 places ( which betfair says is normally 2 places but it depends, i cannot work out what it depends on ). I place layed a horse, it came 3rd & i lost my bet. When in the same circumstances ive place backed the horse & it came 3rd i also lose that bet. I cannot understand when it drops to a 7 horse race on the exchange if its 3 or 2 horses

What time was the non runner posted?

if it were an 8 runner race, the original place terms are obviously 3 to be placed.

If the market has been opened and then there is a non runner the race will remain 3 places ALWAYS.

If the non runner was very early the day previously before the betfair market then the place terms would change to 2 places in your example. But by that time you should have been aware that the market had changed.

stridingedge i would have agreed with that but when ive place backed it everytime in the same circumstances & it came 3rd i always lose & again when i phone betfair i cannot understand their answer. They say it depends on circumstances but i dont know what circumstances

So as long as your bets are placed when the betfair market is open, you should know what the place terms are going to be in the event of non runners.

In a very rare occasion when there are too many non runners for the remaining ones to satisfy the place criteria, the places will be void.

ie 8 runners goes down to 3 runners.

I do have a sharp feeling in my mouth tbh, think I've been hooked good and proper.

different gravy this is not a wind up. Im no wind up merchant & im asking a question that is really annoying me. Im sick of phoning betfair as i still dont understand what they tell me. I asked them where can i see when i place bet if the number of horse running has changed from the morning how many places it pays to. Its a really simple question that should have a really simple answer. I think there is money to be made on the place market but not if you dont know what places it pays to. If i want a large bet im scared as we all know its so easy to lose money on betting. Ive been on betfair for many years but not always on the place market. Im mostly a layer but occasionally im a backer , but on the place market as explained i keep getting it goes against me on the number of places, & i think its wrong.

stridingedge honestly mate this is no wind up. Im surprised this hasnt happened to others & i only wrote this on here as i just assumed as its happened to me before on the opposite bet that it must have happened to others. Its also do you remember when a horse ran but it wasnt that horse, they put in a different horse & i layed it with a liability of around #1,000. It won & i lost my bet. On the sportsbook you wouldnt have lost your bet it would have been voided, but i dont think using betangel pro you can bet on the sportsbook, i think it has to be the exchange

Years ago i went on the betangel trading course & it was totally over my head & im rubbish at trading. I just cannot get it right which way the price will go. Im not the cleverest guy on here by a long way & right now for a few days i wont be betting as im so upset over this & betting when upset will lead to big losses. So guys please if this has happened to you write it on here as surely it cannot only be me it happens to.

Dont listen to anyone at betfair cust services, they know nothing about racing as it is not a prerequisite of the job

Boookies non runner rules are different to exchanges, if you cannot grasp this simple fact take up train-spotting(or fishing) it will cost you less.

different gravy but befair itself says 7 horses are usually 2 places, but they dont say something like the non runner must be declared 10 mins before race start time. All i want to know is how do we know if its to 2 or 3 places. If you click on the 'Each Way' or 'Place' tabs you'll see the number of places available.

Punchestown, i dont know if you bet on boxing but in march errol spence is fighting mikey garcia, this is the closest thing you will get to a guaranteed win. Unless errol comes in injured or is sick or gets injured accidentally in the fight he wins, almost certainly by ko. The odds wont be good but its on overnight & so wont affect you during horse racing betting. I will have a huge bet on errol spence to win. Good luck & thank you.
