Bruce's departure will be a good test of some forumites' belief that it is Bruce who allowed bookies to get away with FOBTs and knock-backs. It might turn out to be more complicated than that.

btw it all seems a bit sudden as there is no replacement lined up according to the RP story.

If Byrne thinks Millington was a great editor and they are keeping him as a consultant then the next person will be just as bad. Byrne should do one as well.

Absolutely GOOD RIDDANCE!  One would be hard pressed to find a more talentless d***ckhead in a village full of idiots.
I don't buy the he is "stepping" down bullsh**t.  He more than likely has been SACKED - and deservedly so.  An incompetent fool, who managed to fool a lot of people for a lot of the time.

Millington going................... SIDEWAYS

Alan Byrne - "I am delighted that Racing Post customers and staff will still have the considerable benefit of his knowledge and flair when Bruce takes on a role as editorial consultant later in the year."

Millington - "I will continue to contribute to the Racing Post on a part-time basis, working on special projects as well as writing and broadcasting."

be interesting if anyone says anything nice about him in the racing world, ,,, apart from bookies reps

Probably into another bookie trough eg laddies/ok koral; another gravy train in the offing, no doubt.

Hopefully Nick Rust at the BHA would be next. He is wholly unsuitable for his present role.

who will replace bruce, could do with a top-notcher like chris cook?
By:
tomhunt
When: 28 Sep 18 14:25
he's left the online version in an absolute mess, not sure they know how to fix it, the 'upgrade' should never have been sanctioned

You only have to read some of the rubbish Chris Cook has written this summer to know he is a long way removed from a top notcher

i expect it could be someone like mottershead

imo they really need someone who can see that they dont need so many columnists/tipsters etc

Ian Hislop,...he knows nothing about horse racing which is not a disadvantage at the Racing Post, and not in a bookie trough.

chris cook is a racing man though in my opinion, bruce was always a sports/footy type. eg More concerned with VAR rules than the whip rules. The pool of potential candidates is shockingly poor.

If Chris Cook was a 'proper' racing man he'd not have written some of the howlers he did this summer

Such as?

Motty is a good shout by Rider. Yes man for Byrne and the racing insiders won't mind him cos he won't criticise them too much either.

His assertion in the Guardian in August that Andre Fabre had had runners before at Catterick Bridge and Carlisle is a personal favourite.

The irony of course being that the info was taken from the Racing Post database.

They have kept putting the price up over the last few years until it is now £2.90 a day and sales have dropped through the floor, Could be a matter of time until it is online only + betting shop paper, although if the forecast number of shop closures with the cut in stakes on FOBT the betting shop paper could go to the wall. Greed killed the golden goose.

Byrne played a blinder with Millington. Imo Byrne made the big decisions and Bruce took all the flak. Genius if you think about it.
